Senior Underwriter

Primary Details Time Type: Full time Worker Type: Employee To provide underwriting, technical support, assist in the development and management of a profitable business portfolio under the specified insurance class according to the Company's guidelines and delegated authorities. The Opportunity Contribute to the achievement of operational objectives for the underwriting function and/or business unit Contribute to the development the annual business plan for the portfolio, monitor and report on progress, identify deviations, recommend remedial action and implement it, in order to achieve business objectives Participate in meetings, as required, to contribute and support the development of strategy, share knowledge and best practice Perform underwriting activities in accordance with all legal and regulatory requirements to ensure obligations are met Adhere to underwriting standards, instructions and good practice to minimize risks and maximize efficiency with contribution to continuous quality improvement processes Your New Role Develop and maintain good working relationships with all customers, intermediaries and internal stakeholders Actively keep abreast of market dynamics and demonstrate market cycle awareness to be able to operate effectively and appropriately Evaluate risk for new business in accordance with standards, to ensure profitable growth Identify new business opportunities and self-insurance prospects Establish appropriate measurement techniques and reporting systems Build strong knowledge of current legislation, best practice, underwriting acceptance levels, systems and organizational guidelines Contribute to the aggregate management and peer review processes About You Act as a technical expert to support the identification of issues and opportunities within the specified insurance class and provide efficient and timely service to brokers and clients Motivate and develop the team by demonstrating good leadership behaviors and management best practice so as to support the achievement of business goals Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, ability to analyze data use for decision-making with commercial acumen 10+ years of underwriting experience Established customer/broker relationships QBE Cultural DNA Everything we do at QBE is underpinned by our DNA (which interlinks seven cultural elements) - because we know it's not just what we do that matters, it's how we do it that makes the difference.
