Our client is one of three public healthcare clusters and an integrated general hospital in Singapore, offering holistic care from acute, sub-acute to rehabilitative settings, reducing the need for patient transfers to other healthcare institutions.
OVERVIEW
The Nurse Educator assesses, identifies, implements, coordinates, and evaluates the continuing education, training, and development plans for departmental nursing staff, ensuring the provision of competent and quality patient care. Responsibilities include nursing staff induction, clinical education/training, in-service education, and fostering personal and professional growth.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary Responsibilities:
- Resource Person: Serve as the go-to expert in education, nursing training, and clinical issues to maintain high standards of care.
- Clinical Supervision: Plan and provide direct clinical supervision for nursing students and junior staff.
- Learning Environment: Facilitate a conducive clinical learning environment for nursing students to enhance their learning experiences.
- Feedback and Action Plans: Monitor and evaluate feedback from nursing students; develop action plans collaboratively with ward nursing colleagues to improve learning experiences.
- Collaboration with Educational Institutions: Ensure nursing students' application of learning in practice, e.g., hand hygiene compliance.
- Teaching Strategies: Utilize effective teaching strategies to develop critical thinking and clinical reasoning among nursing students, newly recruited nurses, and nursing staff.
- Coaching Preceptors & Instructors: Coach preceptors and clinical instructors on role effectiveness and assessment of nursing trainees and junior nurses.
- Staff Orientation and Training: Conduct orientation, training, and continuing education programs to maintain competency levels.
- Learning Needs Analysis: Identify learning gaps and training needs of nursing staff at ward/cluster level.
- Career Counseling: Provide career counseling/coaching for all levels of nursing staff for professional development.
- Core Competencies: Maintain and perform core competencies in clinical teaching/supervision, structured teaching, and assessment of trainees and nurses' clinical performance.
- Curriculum Review: Review and revise existing curriculum to meet current educational needs of the hospital.
- E-Learning Development: Participate in the implementation and development of e-learning resources.
- Mentorship: Mentor and induct potential acting nurse clinicians for the education track.
- Collaborative Work: Work with ward/unit/cluster Nursing Officers and Senior Nursing Officers to maintain clinical standards and conduct performance management.
- Clinical Competency: Maintain clinical competency by seeking educational opportunities to stay current and acquire new knowledge.
- Research and Evidence-Based Practice: Collaborate on nursing research initiatives to improve patient outcomes.
- Quality Improvement Projects: Participate in educational audits, quality improvement projects, and risk management.
- Committee Participation: Engage in nursing workgroups/committees at the cluster/hospital level.
- Additional Responsibilities: Take on additional tasks as assigned by the Senior Nurse Educator, Deputy/Assistant Director (Nursing), and Chief Nurse.
REQUIREMENTS
- Registered Nurse: At least 9 years of post-registration clinical experience, including a minimum of one (1) year in clinical teaching/professional development and continuing education in an acute hospital setting, and 2 years as Assistant Nurse Clinician.
- Educational Background: Diploma in Nursing with relevant post-basic advanced certification and a Degree in Nursing from a recognized training institution as approved by the Singapore Nursing Board. A teaching qualification is advantageous.
- Skills: Good interpersonal and communication skills, proficiency in MS Office applications (MS Word, MS Excel, PowerPoint), and strong computer skills.
- Work Schedule: 5-day office hours plus coordinating duties (one weekend per month). Must perform clinical roles when required.
