We are seeking a highly capable and driven individual to take on a dual role as Director of Business Operations and General Counsel. This unique position requires a professional who possesses both strong legal expertise and proven operational and business leadership skills. The successful candidate will not only safeguard the company's legal and compliance standing but also play a central role in shaping and executing strategies that drive sustainable growth and international expansion.
This is a senior position suited for an individual who is comfortable navigating complex legal frameworks, while at the same time demonstrating entrepreneurial thinking and operational excellence. The role requires the ability to balance meticulous attention to detail with a big-picture perspective, enabling the company to scale effectively and enter new markets with confidence.
Key Responsibilities
Legal & Compliance
- Provide sound legal advice and guidance on a wide range of corporate, commercial, and regulatory issues to management and key stakeholders.
- Draft, review, and negotiate complex contracts, agreements, and legal documents, ensuring the company's interests are protected.
- Monitor and interpret changes in legislation across multiple jurisdictions and assess their impact on the business.
- Establish internal policies, frameworks, and controls to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
- Proactively manage legal risks, resolve disputes, and oversee relationships with external counsel when required.
Business Operations & Strategy
- Oversee the company's operational activities and ensure that daily processes are efficient, scalable, and aligned with business objectives.
- Identify areas of improvement within operational workflows, implementing best practices and technology-driven solutions to enhance productivity.
- Lead the development and execution of strategic initiatives to drive business growth and profitability.
- Conduct market research and due diligence to identify new international opportunities, supporting the company's overseas expansion plans.
- Assist in structuring and negotiating cross-border business arrangements, partnerships, and investments.
- Ensure that operational policies and procedures evolve in tandem with the company's growth and regulatory obligations.
Leadership & Management
- Partner closely with senior leadership to integrate legal and operational strategies into the company's overall business plan.
- Lead and inspire teams across legal, compliance, and operational functions, ensuring a culture of accountability and excellence.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the board and executive team, providing insights that balance risk management with business objectives.
- Champion cross-functional projects and initiatives that require alignment between legal considerations and operational execution.
- Anticipate potential challenges and provide solutions that support long-term sustainability and resilience.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) or equivalent legal qualification. A postgraduate degree or professional certifications will be an advantage.
- Minimum of 5 to 7 years of post-qualification experience, with a combination of private practice and in-house counsel exposure preferred.
- Strong understanding of corporate and commercial law, including experience with contracts, regulatory compliance, and corporate governance.
- Experience in managing cross border transactions, regulatory frameworks, and international operations is highly advantageous.
- Proven track record in business operations, strategy development, and execution within a corporate or entrepreneurial environment.
- Exceptional leadership skills, with the ability to manage teams and drive projects across departments.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Highly analytical, strategic thinker with excellent problem solving and decision making capabilities.
- Resilient, adaptable, and capable of thriving in a fast paced, growth oriented organisation.
Salary & Benefits
The salary for this role is SGD 15,000 to SGD 20,000 per month, with the final offer dependent on the candidate's knowledge, experience, and proven track record. Additional performance based incentives and benefits may also be provided and will be discussed with shortlisted candidates.
