DSO National Laboratories (DSO) is Singapore's largest defence research and development (R&D) organisation, with the critical mission to develop technological solutions to sharpen the cutting edge of Singapore's national security. At DSO, you will develop more than just a career. This is where you will make a real impact and shape the future of defence across the spectrum of air, land, sea, space and cyberspace.
The Emerging Systems Division focuses research and development on a broad spectrum of capabilities that are critical to the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) defence systems. These include antenna design and electromagnetics, as well as next-wave technologies in the areas of lasers and advanced materials.
The successful candidate will be part of a team of research scientists and engineers developing quantum capabilities in DSO. The goal is to translate cutting-edge, quantum sensing technologies into robust solutions for defence applications. At the Quantum Sensing Programme in DSO, the successful candidate will work alongside highly motivated colleagues, collaborate with both local and overseas quantum communities to unlock the power of quantum technologies.
People are DSO's greatest asset. You will get to realise your career aspirations and develop your own niche either as a deep technical expert or a leader in the team. With frequent career dialogues and a robust training and development framework, we will provide you with the necessary development tools for you to reach your potential. You will also be recognised and rewarded through competitive remuneration packages and scholarship opportunities.
Quantum Scientist
In this role, you will:
- Design quantum devices for inertial or electromagnetic sensing
- Demonstrate proof-of-concepts of sensing techniques and schemes that leverage quantum physics
- Test and characterise quantum devices or materials in optical, vacuum, or cryogenic setups
- Conduct experimental validation of quantum sensors such as atomic interferometers, SQUIDs, Rydberg atom or NV diamond sensors
- Work with software engineers, system engineers and stakeholders to ensure successful transition of lab devices into sensor payloads
- PhD / Masters / Bachelor's Degree in Applied Physics, Physics, or Engineering Science
- Strong background in quantum physics, laser physics, and/or atomic, molecular and optical physics
- Proficiency at developing or using physics-based numerical or analytical models
