
School Counsellor

The School Counsellor's expertise and primary duties are to provide counselling services to the school. However, the School Counsellor is also an integral member of the Student Development Team and would be actively involved in conducting programmes pertaining to students' affective development and well-being.
Job Responsibilities
Counselling Students
- Provide direct counselling intervention for students in the High School Section, and where needed, in the College Section.
- Be a valuable team member of the High School Well-Being Centre and collaborate with other counsellors in designing and implementing a coherent system of counselling and well-being approaches.
- Coordinate with the Case Management Team in providing timely support for students who need counselling.
- Make home visits for students who are unable to come to school.
Working with Staff
- Provide consultations for staff in managing students with academic, behavioral, and emotional issues.
- Provide and source for counselling training & other workshops for staff to strengthen their affective skills.
- Collaborate with relevant staff teams to set up upstream prevention strategies.
Working with Parents
- Provide consultations for parents in managing students with academic, behavioral and emotional issues.
- Conduct and/or coordinate workshops for parents to align their expectations with the school's and to strengthen their parenting skills.
School Duties
- Provide counselling support in the event of school emergencies as a member of the Caring Action in Response to Emergencies (CARE) team.
- Coordinate and collaborate with the Student Development Team in the design and implementation of affective and well-being programmes.
Curriculum Design and Implementation
- Collaborate with Student Development Team members in the design and implementation of a guidance curriculum in the High School Section.
- Work with the Student Development Team in designing and implementing programmes to promote students' social and emotional growth.
Any other duties as assigned by the Reporting Officer, Deans, Deputy Principal or Principal.
Requirements
- Graduate qualification in counselling, counselling psychology or clinical psychology.
- Preferably a registered counsellor and/or clinical supervisor with Singapore.
- Association for Counselling (SAC) or a registered psychologist with the Singapore Psychological Society (SPS).
- A minimum of ONE year of professional counselling experience and competent in case management, and critical incident management.
- Proficient in professional counselling approaches and tools to help clients with diverse issues and conditions.
- Experience in working with young adults, preferably in a school setting.
- Experience in working in a multi-disciplinary team and conducting or facilitating continual Professional Development training for staff is advantageous.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and responsibilities.
