About the role

We are seeking an Electrical Control Designer to join our team in the North Region. In this full-time role, you will be responsible for designing and developing electrical control systems that power our innovative industrial solutions. Your expertise in electrical and electronic engineering will be instrumental in driving the company's continued success.

What you'll be doing

  • Design and develop low-voltage and medium-voltage switchboards.
  • Create detailed electrical drawings, schematics, and layouts.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, software, and production teams to align system requirements.
  • Communicate with clients to gather technical requirements and clarify design expectations.
  • Present design proposals, updates, and technical details to clients and stakeholders.
  • Perform engineering calculations for power distribution and control systems.
  • Review and interpret project specifications, standards, and client requirements.
  • Participate in internal and external design reviews, providing expert technical input.
  • Support system testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning on-site or remotely.
  • Maintain regular communication with clients to address design changes, questions, and feedback.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, new technologies, and evolving regulations.
  • Ensure timely execution of deliverables in line with project schedules.

Control Systems & Compliance Duties

  • Define system requirements and architecture for electrical control systems.
  • Design control logic, automation, and monitoring systems for propulsion and manoeuvring.
  • Analyze system performance and recommend improvements for efficiency and reliability.
  • Collaborate with R&D to develop and implement new technologies.

  • Create and maintain technical documentation including:

  • Operation manuals

  • Maintenance guides
  • As-built drawings
  • Ensure compliance with relevant electrical codes, marine standards, and safety regulations.
  • Coordinate with classification societies and regulatory agencies for system certification.
  • Support client audits, factory acceptance tests (FAT), and certification processes.

What we're looking for

  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (or related field).

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in electrical design, preferably in:

  • Switchboard manufacturing

  • Control systems
  • Proficient in AutoCAD Electrical or similar design software.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical standards, power distribution, and control system design.
  • Familiarity with relevant codes and industry standards.
  • Skilled in component selection and system integration.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for client interaction.
  • Ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience working directly with clients on technical discussions, updates, and issue resolution.
  • Effective communicator, able to work across departments and with clients.
  • Project management skills (asset, but not required).
