Staff Mechanical Engineer

Reporting to the Senior Director, Singapore Engineering and Operations, the Staff Mechanical Engineer will work with cross-functional teams and SMEs to qualify instruments in production before shipment. The Staff Mechanical Engineer will collaborate with US-based teams and is responsible to resolve hardware engineering and performance issues in functional test, application, or proxy run in FIT, both internally in the field. This role requires an Engineer with a strong background in complex instrumentation, mechanism and data analytics.

Essential duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Involvement from NPI and product transfer to production to understand the system design architecture of complex instrumentation incorporating optics, fluidics, thermal systems, and motion systems.
• Collaborate cross-functionally and across multiple locations on the development of functional tests for instrument qualification.
• Support all aspects of the product development process including test, integration, characterization, and generation of documentation for manufacturing processes.
• Perform instrument setup, calibration, and final system integration test in production.
• Support system-level testing and failure analysis of performance issues during NPI prototype and pilot build phases.
• Lead and drive troubleshooting, failure analysis, root cause analysis, and corrective action processes as required.
• Apply various analysis techniques, such as FMEA and statistical analysis to optimize product quality and minimize cost.
• Manage and coordinate change order implementation activities including scrap analysis, material disposition, and test requirement changes.
• Perform data trending analysis, and address yield and quality issues as needed.
• Lead and drive product sustaining work such as improvements in process and test fixtures to meet production goals.
• Ability to list up to 40 pounds (18 kilograms) for approximately 5% of typical working day.
• Ability to pinch with thumb and forefinger; turn with hand/arm; reach above shoulder height.
• Ability to comply with personal protective equipment requirements.
• Ability to travel up to 20% of working time away from work location, may include overnight/weekend travel at times. Some travel to US-based offices is required.
• Ability to work in front of a computer screen and/or perform typing for approximately 90% of a typical working day.

Role Requirements:

• Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electro-mechanical Engineering; or 6 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with 3 years experience; or equivalent experience.​
• Proficiency in SolidWorks, 2D drawings and GD&T.
• Good working knowledge in manufacturing technologies such as plastic & sheetmetal tooling, machining and standard manufacturing processes.
• Experienced in instrument field failure investigation and support in production environment.
• Working knowledge and hands-on experience especially in both mechanical and fluidics systems.
• Experience working with outsourced design partners or contract design manufacturer, managing the outsourced activities to deliver to program schedule.
• Proficiency in engineering tools such as statistical analysis software like Matlab or JMP, design of experiments, product and process capability analysis.
• Sound analytical and troubleshooting skills.
• Valid passport.
• Demonstrated ability to perform the Essential Duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with imaging systems and complex instrumentation.
• Experience in product development in the life sciences, biotech, and/or biomedical industries.
• FDA regulated medical device product development or sustaining experience.

In Singapore, the estimated base salary range for this position is $110,000 SGD - $130,000 SGD/year. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
