Fiber Optic Technician is responsible for installing, splicing, testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining fiber optic cables and related network systems to ensure high-quality data transmission.

Installation and Setup

  • Install and terminate fiber optic cables (single-mode and multi-mode).
  • Perform cable pulling, routing, and securing in ducts, trays, or conduits.
  • Install fiber enclosures, patch panels, and other related hardware.
  • Set up fiber distribution frames and connect fibers according to network layouts.

2. Splicing and Termination

  • Perform mechanical and fusion splicing of fiber optic cables.
  • Conduct fiber termination using various connector types (SC, LC, ST, etc.).

3. Testing and Inspection

  • Use testing tools such as OTDR, power meter, and light source for cable performance verification.
  • Identify fiber faults, losses, breaks, or degradations.
  • Document test results and provide detailed reports.

4. Maintenance and Troubleshooting

  • Diagnose and repair fiber cable faults or damage.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on network infrastructure.

5. Documentation and Reporting

  • Maintain records of splicing logs, test reports, and as-built drawings.
  • Update network maps and cable route information.
  • Prepare daily or weekly work progress reports for management review.

6. Coordination and Communication

  • Work with engineers, contractors, and clients to ensure project requirements are met.
  • Assist in site surveys and provide technical input for project planning.
  • Support training or mentoring of junior technicians when required.
