Legal Counsel, Region Asia Pacific and Japan

Singapore Elekta Full time $120,000 - $240,000 per year

Short term maternity cover. Providing general in-house legal advice and managing external legal resources as well as actively controlling and managing legal risks within the Elekta Group at an acceptable level.

Responsibilities

Assist and support Region Asia Pacific, Region Japan, work with other group legal counsels on legal issues faced by the Elekta Group and in particular on issues arising in Asia Pacific and Japan. The work includes the following:

  • Responsible for advising assigned clients with regard to any and all other legal issues

  • Interacts with senior leadership on key corporate transactions by providing prompt, practical, and commercial oriented advice

  • Handles complex commercial contracting matters, including drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and managing a variety of contracts for various business units

  • Manages litigation, arbitration, settlement negotiations and outside legal resources

  • Assists with acquisitions, divestitures and restructurings

  • Develops and implements best practices, including the proactive development of forms, templates, and training materials to streamline transactional processes

  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested by senior management

Authorities

  • Design and/or approve procedures and directives on issues with legal implications.

  • Adopt standard agreements for use in Asia Pacific and Japan.

  • Advise and assist management functions in decisions on acceptable legal risks in high-risk projects identified by legal.

  • Be responsible for the legal functions located in the Asia Pacific and Japan region and ensure increased transparency, work distribution, succession, back up and good mix of resources in order to efficiently be a legal business partner to the business.

Relevant Knowledge, skills and competencies

  • Good quality law degree from University.

  • At least eight years' experience in practicing law within a reputable medium to large law firm or as an in-house counsel in a medium to larger company, preferably in a multinational cooperation.

  • Strong negotiation, oral and written communication, presentation, training, organizational, and teamwork skills.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as the ability to lead with strong organizational, time management, and project management skills, including experience developing creative solutions to transactional problems.

  • Strong commercial transactions experience. Demonstrated expertise in sophisticated transactional matters, negotiating and drafting complex commercial contracts

  • Experience managing litigation and outside counsel.

  • General understanding of laws and regulations relating to patient/data privacy, corporate compliance, anti-corruption and anti-competition.

  • Sound and relatively broad knowledge of general business and commercial, contract, and commercial law.
