Duties & Responsibilities
Strategic IT Planning and Management:
Develop and implement IT strategies that align with CQT's research goals and objectives.
- Oversee the planning, deployment, and maintenance of CQT's IT infrastructure, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security compliances.
Alignment of the centres IT practices with University policy and best practices.
Infrastructure and Systems Management:
Manage CQT IT resources, data storage solutions, and networking infrastructure essential to support the centre function.
- Ensure the security and integrity of research data through robust data management policies and practices.
Coordinate with Centre IT services to ensure seamless integration and support for CQT-specific needs.
Support for Research and Development:
Work closely with researchers to understand their IT technology requirements and provide support solutions that to enhance their research capabilities.
- Understand and support researchers on Facilitate the adoption of emerging technologies and tools that can advance quantum research.
Provide technical expertise and guidance in the development and deployment of the Centre applications and software.
Policy and Compliance:
Ensure compliance with university policies, data protection regulations, and funding agency requirements.
Develop and enforce IT policies, procedures, and standards specific to the needs of CQT.
Team Leadership and Collaboration:
Lead and mentor a team of CQT IT professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
Liaise with other departments, faculty, and external partners to promote interdisciplinary collaboration and resource sharing.
User Support and Training:
Oversee the provision of technical support to CQT research staff, admin and students, ensuring timely resolution of IT issues.
Develop training programs and resources to enhance the IT skills of CQT members.
Innovation and Continuous Improvement:
Stay informed of the latest trends and advancements in IT.
- Encourage innovative solutions and process improvements that enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of CQT IT services.
Qualifications
Education and Professional Certification- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline. Professional certifications such as ITIL, PMP, CISSP, Cisco (CCNP/CCIE), or Microsoft (MCSE/Azure Solutions Architect) are highly desirable.
Professional Experience- Minimum 7 years of progressive IT infrastructure experience, with at least 3 years in a managerial or leadership role.- Demonstrated experience managing research computing environments, high-performance computing (HPC) clusters, and/or scientific data storage solutions is strongly preferred.- Proven track record in designing, deploying, and supporting robust, scalable, and secure IT infrastructure in large, complex organizations.
Technical Skills- Expertise in core infrastructure domains: networking (LAN/WAN, firewalls, VPN), servers (Windows/Linux), storage systems (SAN, NAS), and cloud services (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).- Hands-on experience with virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V, or equivalent) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).- Working knowledge of research-specific IT requirements, including data sharing, secure research environments, and compliance with national/international data protection standards (e.g., PDPA, GDPR).- Familiarity with scientific workflow management systems and research data management platforms is advantageous.
Leadership and Management- Strong leadership abilities with experience building, developing, and managing multidisciplinary IT teams.- Demonstrated capacity to manage IT projects, including requirements gathering, budgeting, resource allocation, and stakeholder communication.- Experience in policy development, risk management, and leading IT audits or compliance reviews.
Communication and Collaboration- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to translate complex technical information for diverse stakeholders, including researchers, administrators, and external collaborators.- Proven ability to develop and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders, research partners, and external vendors.
Other Requirements- Commitment to supporting the mission and values of a national research institution, including research integrity, data security, and innovation.- Ability to respond promptly to critical incidents and participate in after-hours support as needed.- Demonstrated commitment to continuous professional development and staying abreast of emerging technologies relevant to the research sector.
