Scope of Work:
The Personal Care Officer (PCO) plays a key frontline role in ensuring the safety, welfare, hygiene, and engagement of elderly residents at Jamiyah Home for the Aged. The PCO oversees personal care standards, discipline, cleanliness, and operational routines during assigned shifts, while supervising the work of Nursing Aides and Healthcare Assistants to ensure a secure, compassionate, and values- driven care environment.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Ensure residents maintain good hygiene and grooming; supervise aides and attendants in providing personal care.
- Monitor residents' daily routines, including meals and rest, and support them with feeding or toileting when needed.
- Attend promptly to residents' complaints, grievances, or discomfort and escalate serious matters to the Operations Manager or nursing staff.
- Identify and report changes in residents' physical or mental health condition, including illness or relapse of conditions.
- Participate in the development, implementation, and follow-up of individual care plans.
- Maintain updated case files and records for each resident, documenting incidents such as hospitalisations or critical behavioural concerns.
- Organise and implement in-house activities for residents to enhance psychosocial well being.
- Accompany residents to external outings and ensure safety and supervision throughout.
- Uphold discipline and safety within the Home; conduct regular muster checks and follow up on absentees or incidents.
- Supervise the search and logging of personal belongings during resident admissions.
- Enforce SOPs relating to visitor access, prohibited items, and movement in and out of the premises.
- Maintain close communication with fellow officers during shift handovers and ensure effective coordination.
- Conduct regular patrols of dormitories, toilets, dining areas, and common spaces to ensure cleanliness and order.
- Report maintenance or repair needs to the Support Manager via the Defect Record Book.
- Ensure the Home remains secure, safe, and operationally sound during the assigned shift.
- Be familiar with and comply with relevant provisions of the Destitute Persons Act (Cap. 78) and related Welfare Homes Regulations.
- Adhere to all policies and procedures as outlined by Jamiyah and the Home's internal SOPs.
- Perform ad-hoc duties given by the higher management.
Job Requirements:
- Certificate, Diploma or Degree in any field from a recognised institution.
- Minimum 1–2 years of relevant experience in residential care, eldercare, or social service environments.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to handle vulnerable seniors with compassion and professionalism.
- Knowledge of basic care routines, safety practices, and residential facility operations.
- Willingness to work rotating shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
- Able to communicate effectively in Malay and/or English to liaise with residents and staff.
- Proactive mindset and commitment to continuous improvement.
- Knowledge of risk identification and mitigation is a plus.
- High integrity, ethical standards, and commitment to Jamiyah's mission.
