APAC Regulatory Legal Counsel

We're looking for an experienced lawyer with exceptional credentials and experience in internet law and regulatory issues to join our Global Regulatory Legal team. Based in Singapore as a member of our regional APAC legal team, this is a pivotal role, and a once in a career opportunity to join our friendly and dynamic team as we help to build the app of everything and change the social media landscape.

You will join X's Global Regulatory Legal team as our APAC Regulatory Legal Counsel focusing on legislative and regulatory matters across the APAC region. You'll work on complex legislative, regulatory and public policy related issues in close collaboration with the rest of the Legal organisation, the Global Government Affairs team, the Global Compliance team, and with teams across the company (including Safety, Product and Engineering),

Responsibilities:

  • Provision of legal advice on legislative and regulatory matters applicable to social media platforms across APAC including in Australia, India, Japan and Singapore (and across South East Asia),  conducting new legislative review and analysis and partnering with X's Product Counsel, Global Government Affairs, Litigation, Compliance, Privacy and other teams.

  • Work in close collaboration with X's Global Compliance Function, Product Counsel and other legal and business teams in the review, implementation and monitoring of applicable laws pertaining to social media platforms.  

  • Review and analyse legal risks related to regulatory and policy issues important for X and the people who use our platform.

  • Directly contribute to and help coordinate responses to external inquiries and administrative procedures related to legal and regulatory matters, including collaborating effectively with outside counsel.

  • Support regulatory engagements with governments, lawmakers and policymakers, including helping to prepare materials.

  • Partner with X's Global Government Affairs team to monitor legal issues related to public policy priorities in the APAC region. 

  • Support and collaborate with local teams to lead on regulatory or policy matters in-country depending on priorities.

Qualifications:

  • Qualified lawyer of good standing. 

  • 5+ years of relevant experience, including experience providing legal support to technology companies and/or government bodies on issues related to the internet.

  • Contentious experience is a plus.

  • Exceptional communication skills.

  • Strong experience and understanding of the legislative process and legal frameworks across APAC, and of the technology industry more broadly.

  • Experience working in cross-functional teams with excellent results.

  • Comfortable working in a company undergoing change, with excellent organisational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadline pressure.

  • Comfortable working with ambiguity, on novel issues and in an emerging legal and regulatory landscape.
