Position Overview

The Mechanical Design Engineer – Optical Modules is responsible for leading the structural design, analysis, and validation of optical modules and sub-assemblies. This role works at the intersection of mechanical, optical, thermal, and manufacturing engineering to deliver robust, compliant, and manufacturable designs that meet industry standards such as OSFP, QSFP, and QSFP-DD. The ideal candidate has deep experience in mechanical design for optical transceivers or OSAs and is comfortable driving design reviews, resolving assembly issues, and supporting customers and production teams with technical expertise.

Responsibilities

  • Lead 3D/2D structural design of optical modules and sub-assemblies.
  • Ensure designs meet relevant MSA standards and mechanical requirements.
  • Perform tolerance analysis, thermal analysis, EMI shielding design, and DFM reviews.
  • Support design reviews and develop tooling, fixtures, and jigs for prototypes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver optimized module designs.
  • Troubleshoot assembly issues, conduct failure analysis, and support customers/manufacturing teams.
  • Prepare and maintain technical specifications, documentation, and provide mentorship to junior engineers.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering (or related field) with 5+ years of experience in optical transceiver/OSA mechanical design.
  • Strong knowledge of optical module MSAs (OSFP, QSFP, QSFP-DD) and mechanical design principles.
  • Proven ability in assembly troubleshooting, failure analysis, and producing standardized technical documentation.
