Job Description
The Cardiovascular and Metabolic Disorders (CVMD) Programme houses state-of-the-art technologies for profiling mitochondrial function and metabolic adaptations in human patients and other model organisms, and undertakes translational and clinical research in cardiovascular and metabolic disorders.
We are seeking a Research Assistant to support ongoing projects in the Laboratory for Cardiovascular Development and Disease under Associate Professor Manvendra K. Singh. For more information about the laboratory and its work, please visit:
The successful candidate will assist in planning, organising, and executing research studies under the supervision of the Principal Investigator (or his designate).
- Perform and support all aspects of assigned research projects.
- Manage mouse colonies, including genotyping, tail-marking/tattooing, and general animal handling.
- Conduct tissue and cell culture procedures.
- Execute molecular and cellular biology assays, including ELISA, tissue histology, immunostaining, cell‐based assays, and handle analytical techniques such as FACS, RT-qPCR, electrophoresis, and Western blotting.
- Accurately document, monitor, and report experimental results and research findings.
- Analyse and interpret data, and prepare oral presentations, written reports, or manuscripts for publication; highlight progress, trends, and conclusions or recommendations.
- Assist in project management tasks, occasionally provide laboratory demonstrations, and help guide undergraduate or medical students.
- Establish and maintain efficient lab workflows, uphold safety protocols, perform routine lab upkeep, and provide technical support for ongoing research projects.
- Perform other related duties as needed to support the lab's activities.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in the Life Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, or a related discipline, with hands-on experience in experimental laboratory work.
- Scientific understanding relevant to cardiovascular or related research areas. Previous experience in cardiovascular research or rodent-animal work is a plus; certification such as RCULA is advantageous.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and strong written and oral communication abilities; competent in use of standard computer tools for data analysis and documentation.
- Able to carry out independent research progressively and with minimal supervision.
- A strong team player who is open-minded, energetic, highly motivated and can work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team and diverse workforce.
