JOB SUMMARY (GENERAL NATURE / OBJECTIVES OF THE JOB):

The Hospital Construction Project Manager is responsible for the successful planning, execution, monitoring, and completion of hospital construction projects within budget, quality, safety, and time constraints. This role coordinates with stakeholders, consultants, contractors, and regulatory bodies to ensure that healthcare facility construction complies with codes, standards, and operational requirements, while minimizing disruption to existing hospital operations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES:
  • Lead the planning, scheduling, budgeting, and execution of hospital construction projects from initiation to handover.
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, consultants, contractors, and hospital leadership to align project goals.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare construction codes, safety regulations, and infection control protocols.
  • Manage procurement processes, tender evaluations, and contract negotiations with vendors and contractors.
  • Monitor progress, prepare status reports, and present updates to stakeholders and senior management.
  • Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies to minimize cost overruns, delays, and safety issues.
  • Oversee site inspections and ensure adherence to quality standards, patient safety requirements, and design specifications.
  • Facilitate project handover, commissioning of systems, and transition to hospital operations.

  • Expertise in construction contracts (FIDIC, EPC, Design-Build, etc.).
  • Familiarity with Building Information Modeling (BIM) and construction scheduling software (Primavera, MS Project).
  • Strong financial acumen for budget control, cost estimation, and value engineering.
  • Knowledge of hospital-specific MEP systems, medical gases, and infection control standards.

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:

  • Excellent communication and report-writing skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Knowledge of hospital workflows and operational requirements.
  • Skilled in conflict resolution and contractor performance management.
  • Understanding of sustainability practices and green building standards in healthcare construction.

FORMAL EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or related field (essential).
  • Master's degree in Project Management, Healthcare Facility Planning, or related specialization (preferred).
  • Professional certifications such as PMP, RICS, or LEED accreditation (advantageous).
