Chemical Technician – Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU) Plant, Jurong Island

Job Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor the thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) extrusion process and related production activities in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), ensuring strict adherence to safety, quality, and environmental standards.
  • Set up, start, stop, and troubleshoot the extruder and associated equipment.
  • Perform routine patrols of the plant to monitor process conditions and equipment performance.
  • Collect and analyze samples to evaluate TPU product quality and process parameters.
  • Promptly report any abnormalities in the extrusion process, process deviations, equipment malfunctions, environmental issues, incidents, or near-misses. Participate in investigations when required.
  • Support daily maintenance coordination and assist in planned maintenance activities, including shutdowns and start-ups.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on extrusion efficiency, equipment performance, and product quality.
  • Assist in the training of new technicians.
  • Serve as an active member of the Company Emergency Response Team (CERT).
  • Perform scheduled housekeeping tasks to maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Ensure proper handover and takeover during shift changes.
  • Any other duties as and when required to be done by superior.

Job Requirements

  • Diploma or NITEC in Chemical Process Technology, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Electrical & Electronics Engineering.
  • Minimum 2 years' working experience in chemical or polymer manufacturing plant preferred.
  • Experience operating polymerization and extrusion unit with automated control systems is highly desirable.
  • Basic knowledge of chemical processes, maintenance practices, and analytical procedures.
  • An effective team player with good communication and problem solving skills.
  • Willing and able to work on 12-hour rotating shift on Jurong Island.
