Job Description & Requirements

Position Summary

The Youth Worker will play a crucial role in implementing Resilient Minds programs within schools, working closely with at-risk students to provide guidance, support, and a positive, trusting environment. Students will be engaged in meaningful activities after school hours in the school's student activity centre, fulfilling social-moral experiences, engaging physical experiences and quality aesthetic experiences.

The Services required are set out as follows:

  • Be a befriender, a positive role model and a mentor to students;

  • Supervise students during activities, help manage disputes andguide students towards building positive relationships;

  • Help monitor the attendance log-book to track and ensure students'participation in the activities;

  • Work with Authority personnel in the follow-up on students who arenot participating in the activities;

  • Monitor students' needs (i.e. social-emotional), such as looking outfor signs of social emotional distress that would necessitate referring students for counselling or other support, and highlight or inform Authority personnel about students who need support;

  • Provide information and/or access to relevant community resources and developmental opportunities for further support to the students

  • Conduct termly workshops for students to cultivate positive life skills and values at the Authority's after-Authority engagement centre;

  • Plan and conduct termly bonding activities for the students at the Authority's after-Authority engagement centre;

  • Plan and faciltate scenario-based discussions in which students discuss case studies with the objective to cultivate positive life skills and values;

  • Provide qualitative termly reports on GEARUP students and others that the youth worker has been befriending;

Organise at least one learning journey to an organisation / company in the field of STEM / Finance / Food industry

Qualifications

  • A diploma and/or a professional qualification in Youth Work, Psychology, Early Intervention Teaching, Counselling, Education, Behavioral Science or Social Services.

  • Must have at least 6 months of experience in working with secondary level students and is equipped with the skills and competencies to handle complex needs of children/youths

  • Must have at least 6 months in mentoring or coaching youths at-risk or secondary level students

Commitment

Personnel to be deployed at the following hours:

  1. During Authority term : Thrice per week: 3hr each day

  2. Mondays & Wednesdays: 2pm to 5pm

  3. Fridays: 12.30pm to 3.30pm

The total estimated contracted hours during Authority holidays are:

March Holidays: 3 hrs x 1 days = 3 hours

June Holidays: 3 hrs x 3 days = 9 hours

Sep Holidays: 3 hrs x 1 days = 3 hours
