Overview

Looking for a Shell Script Engineer to join our Banking Infrastructure Team. The role focuses on developing, maintaining, and automating Unix/Linux operational processes to support critical banking applications and infrastructure services.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Scripting & Automation

  2. Develop, test, and maintain Shell Scripts to automate system processes, batch jobs, and deployments.

  3. Enhance legacy scripts for reliability, error handling, and performance improvements.

  4. Automate log rotations, data archiving, and routine infrastructure operations.

  5. Integrate shell automation with monitoring and orchestration tools used in the bank.

  6. Infrastructure Operations (BAU Support)

  7. Monitor and maintain scheduled jobs (cron, Control-M, Autosys) for critical banking systems.

  8. Support daily operations including log management, file transfers, and system housekeeping.

  9. Perform incident triage and root cause analysis for job or script failures.

  10. Maintain high operational uptime for banking applications and supporting services.

  11. Deployment & Change Support

  12. Support automated deployments and configuration updates for infrastructure components.

  13. Coordinate with application and DevOps teams to streamline CI/CD processes.

  14. Ensure all deployments adhere to change management and audit requirements.

  15. Monitoring & Compliance

  16. Develop automated health checks for critical services (CPU, memory, storage, process monitoring).

  17. Implement alerting mechanisms and daily reports for system status.

  18. Ensure compliance with bank IT policies, security standards, and audit practices.

  19. Continuous Improvement & Collaboration

  20. Work closely with cross-functional teams (Network, Database, Security) to identify automation opportunities.

  21. Document scripts, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and technical runbooks.

  22. Provide knowledge transfer and mentoring to junior team members.

Required Skills and Experience

  • 4–8 years of experience in Unix/Linux environments within a banking or financial institution.

  • Strong expertise in Shell scripting (Bash, Korn, or Z Shell).

  • Hands-on experience with Control-M, Autosys, or other enterprise job schedulers.

  • Proficiency in Unix commands and text-processing tools (awk, sed, grep, find).

  • Familiarity with ITIL processes, incident/change management, and service delivery models.

  • Knowledge of secure file transfer (SFTP, SCP) and encryption practices.

  • Exposure to Python or Ansible automation preferred. - Experience with Git, Jenkins, or other CI/CD tools beneficial.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.

  • Linux/Unix certification (e.g., RHCE, CompTIA Linux+) preferred.

  • Banking domain or infrastructure operations experience highly desirable.
