Senior Policy Analyst

The Opportunity

We are looking for a Senior Policy Analyst with a focus on spatial planning to join our team in a full-time (37.5 hours per week), permanent basis in our Dunedin, Alexandra or Queenstown office.

The main purpose of the role is to assist with understanding the future spatial planning needs across the Otago region and working alongside our mana whenua and territorial authority partners to address these needs. This includes assisting ORC to respond to the spatial planning requirements of the new resource management system, continuing development and implementation of Future Development Strategies, and involvement in planning processes. From time to time, you may also be involved in other policy work, including responding to central government policy changes or territorial authority plans and resource consents.

To be successful in the role, you will need to demonstrate your strategic thinking, adaptability and creativity. In exchange, you will be part of a highly skilled team working on durable and practical solutions to resource issues. About You

Our ideal candidate will have:

• A tertiary qualification or relevant work history in environmental management/ resource management/ urban planning or a related field
• 5+ years experience in a relevant role, ideally within a local government environment
• Membership of the New Zealand Planning Institute or a desire to work towards membership
• Experience in consultation, working with multi-disciplinary teams and managing projects
• Good communication skills - written, oral and public speaking
• Ability and confidence to present reports or information to Council and other public forums
• Basic knowledge of GIS
• Some knowledge of the Resource Management Act 1991, and consent or plan development processes
• Experience mentoring others
