**Position Summary**:
The Youth Worker will play a crucial role in implementing Resilient Minds programs within secondary schools, working closely with at-risk students to provide guidance, support, and a positive, trusting environment. This role involves direct engagement with students, facilitating group activities, providing one-on-one mentorship, and collaborating with school staff to support each student's emotional, social, and academic growth.
Youths at risk usually struggle with the following:
- Irregular attendance and showing signs of school refusal.
- Social-emotional and behavioural issues.
- Relationship issues with teachers and/or parents.
- Anger issues.
- Self-esteems issues.
- Weak social and family support
**School location: East side**:
**Working Hours for Detention Programme**:
- Tuesday & Wednesday only, 1pm-6pm
- Commitment needed: 21st January 2025 - 22 October 2025
- $40-$50 based on experience
**Key Responsibilities**for Detention Programme**:
1) Programme design, planning and implementation with school staff in engaging Tier 2 (vulnerable) and Tier 3 (high-risk) students:
- _Co-design, co-implement, monitor and review comprehensive Detention Programme on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for students who commit offences such as late coming, truancy, tailored to the needs of students on motivation, learning and behaviour modification. _
- _-Engage and manage students under detention in meaningful activities and conversations to inculcate values, motivate, address and modify undesirable behaviours _
2) Mentoring and Befriending:
- _-Establish positive and supportive relationships with high-needs students, offering guidance and mentorship to address their specific challenges and concerns, change behaviours, to inspire and be a role model to students to connect them to learning, peers, adults and school. _
- _-Conduct one-on-one or small group mentoring sessions to provide socialemotional support and build social-emotional competencies. _
3) Partnerships with Stakeholders:
- _-Work closely with the Student Development Team in a coordinated approach to monitor and support the well-being of high-need students.**Working Hours for GEAR-UP Programme**:
- Every Wednesday only 3pm - 5pm
- Commitment needed: 22nd January 2025 - 24 September 2025
- $40-$50 based on experience
**Key Responsibilities**for GEAR-UP Programme**:
1. Programme design, planning and implementation with school staff in engaging Tier 2 (vulnerable) and Tier 3 (high-risk) students:
- _-Co-design, co-implement, monitor and review comprehensive GEAR-UP Programme on Wednesdays with 25 to 35 students with differentiated lower (Sec 1 and 2) and upper secondary (Sec 3) programme. _
- _-Engage and manage students under GEARUP in meaningful activities and conversations to inculcate values, motivate, address and modify undesirable behaviours. _
2. Mentoring and Befriending:
- _Establish positive and supportive relationships with high-needs students, offering guidance and mentorship to address their specific challenges and concerns, change behaviours, to inspire and be a role model to students to connect them to learning, peers, adults and school. _
- _-Conduct regular one-on-one or small group mentoring sessions to provide socialemotional support and build social-emotional competencies. _
3. _Partnerships with Stakeholders: _
- _-Work closely with the Student Development Team in a coordinated approach to monitor and support the well-being of high-need students. _
**Important note: For both programmes (Detention & Gear-Up) there is a mandatory interview with the school after you are being shortlisted.**
Interview will be 30 minutes slot on 23rd December 2024 (2pm - 4pm) **or**26th December 2024 (9am - 3pm).
**Qualifications and Skills**:
- Prior experience working with at-risk youth, ideally in a secondary school setting.
- Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Education, or related field; relevant certifications are a plus.
- Strong communication, empathy, and interpersonal skills to build trust and rapport with students.
- Ability to create a supportive, inclusive, and safe environment that encourages student growth.
- Knowledge of mental health practices, resilience-building strategies, and trauma-informed care.
- Problem-solving and adaptability skills to meet the unique needs of each student and school environment.
