Reuters is looking for a driven and ambitious journalist to report from Singapore on Asia’s huge and rapidly growing oil products market. This is a high-profile position covering everything from how Asia’s oil demand recovers and surpasses pre-pandemic demand to tracking how Western sanctions on Russia are changing global oil trade. As industries and transport sectors decarbonise, the reporter will also be covering energy transition policies and growing demand for sustainable fuel such as biofuels and sustainable aviation fuels across the Asia Pacific.

The reporter will work with the Singapore energy market reporters and the wider Reuters global energy team to produce world-class business journalism.

The flexibility to expand and adapt coverage in line with the needs of the underlying industry is also essential.

**About this role**

As our Asia Energy Markets Correspondent, you will:

- Write daily market reports covering global oil futures, Asian physical gasoil and jet fuel markets and derivative markets
- Closely monitor buy/sell tenders, physical oil cargo movements from producer centres to consumer hubs, refinery outages
- Report on daily oil product prices in Asia
- Develop and maintain sources to break news ahead of the competition
- Develop, pitch and deliver initiative stories
- Work with our graphics, pictures and TV staff as appropriate to tell stories
- Work together with large global teams to break news and undertake initiative stories

**About you**

To be our Asia Energy Markets Correspondent, you will likely have:

- Minimum five years of experience reporting, preferably on the energy sector and energy markets
- Proven ability to break news fast and reliably
- Excellent written English; knowledge of Asian languages preferential
- Track record of developing industry sources and breaking news on a competitive beat
- Comfort with maintaining and using databases to generate data-driven stories
- Strong news judgment, ability to write with speed, clarity and accuracy
- Proven ability to report and execute initiative stories
- Strong data handling & analysis skills
