Regional APAC Tax Director will play a key role in tax advisory strategies, assure compliance, and partner with the commercial business units at a corporate and regional level in Asia. This position will also proactively manage the relationships with local authorities and agencies, including local tax incentives, and manage relationships with external consulting firms and stakeholders within the APAC region.

Responsibilities / Duties

Stewardship & compliance: overall responsibility for tax provision and statutory compliance which includes the following key areas:

- Ensuring a robust process is in place for partnering with both the Finance function and Global Tax Function in the timely completion of tax provisions and ensuring the provisions are adequate;
- Working with the Finance function, Global Tax Operations Director and external consultants for the timely completion and filing of tax returns and other compliance requirements where opportunities are optimized and tax risks areas are adequately addressed ;
- Working in partnership with the Global Controversy and Risk Management director managing the audits, litigation and risk exposure for the region;
- Responsible for tax accounting under US GAAP including tax provision and tax reserves (ASC 450 and ASC 740) for both interim and annual periods;
- Ensure adequate defense documentation is in place to support the positions taken in the tax return;
- Management of tax audits and development of strategies to close audits in the best interests of the Company.

Business support:

- Be a business partner with business units and other functions to deliver solutions that are tax efficient and at the same time meet their business objectives. This includes the review and provision of tax input on potential or new business cases, contracts, policies and guidelines;
- Participate in due diligence work for M&A initiatives; and
- Where regulations are being introduced that have a tax impact, to represent the tax function and work with the business units and other functions to develop and ensure that tax considerations are adequately taken into account in formulating a business plan that will meet the requirements of the regulations.

Tax Planning:

- Work with Tax Operations and Tax Planning director to develop and implement tax planning projects for the region and be a major contributor in regional and global projects.

Others:

- Provide support to the APAC CFO, Global Tax Directors including the Chief Tax Officer in keeping the management and business partners abreast of tax developments that may have potential impact on their business objectives including conducting tax training as appropriate;
- Independently and effectively manage relationship with internal business partners and external parties such as outside counsel and government agencies for the region, and;
- Participate on the Global Tax Leadership Team under the Chief Tax Officer’s Organization, contributing to the effectiveness with the overall Global Tax Strategy and Initiatives.

Additional Job Description:

- Language: Fluent in English
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in Taxation or Accounting
- Masters of Taxation and/or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent certification is desired
- Preferred 15 years of tax experience in a major accounting firm or publicly traded multinational company
- Experience and deep understanding of tax incentives and tax planning strategies applicable in the region
- Broad base advisory exposure in the areas including transfer pricing, indirect tax, permanent establishment, and principal structures
- Proven track record of leadership, technical and strategic competence
- Strong people leadership experience including demonstrating experience managing and developing a group of resources
- Strong executive presence and the ability to interface effectively with the C-suite, business leaders, and other key stakeholders
- Ability to promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement
- Ability to work cross-functionally and globally
- Outstanding project management skills with ability to manage multiple priorities
- Experience in both domestic and international tax matters
- Demonstrated strong communication and interpersonal skills
