Hbs - Principal Specialist, Robot Perception
4 days ago
Tasks
- Contribute to the overall design of various components of our robot perception system (e.g. object detection/tracking, semantic terrain mapping, situation classification, path prediction, structure detection during docking, and anomaly detection). We take the time to ensure everything works robustly and reliably with each sensor/compute configuration.
- Develop/improve the implementation of each step of our sensor data processing pipeline as well-documented industry-ready software modules and libraries. Currently, we use Python (for prototyping) and Rust/C++ (for deployment). Neural networks are deployed using tools like TVM and TensorRT. We develop predominantly for ROS2.
- Design and develop neural network training pipelines based on both real and synthetic data. We have many neural networks deployed on the robot, and these require individual attention to ensure they are working correctly in real-world deployments.
- Help build benchmarks to automatically test the performance of the perception system in a range of edge cases.
- Help build tools that allow us to monitor the performance of the perception system when deployed in the field.
- Lead the development of perception functions. Work closely with other teams (e.g. navigation team and fleet management team) to ensure operational requirements are met.
- Work with other team members in a range of technical roles.
- In addition to the above, you will also be working on system architecture and design, mapping out a technology roadmap, and executing them together with the rest of the team.
**Qualifications**:
- A degree related to Computer Science or Engineering and 5 years of industry experience.
- Knowledge or experience in robot/autonomous vehicle perception systems with proficiency in at least one of i) object detection/tracking ii) semantic terrain mapping iii) trajectory planning/scene understanding. Having experience in a university or industrial research and development setting is an advantage.
- A solid foundation in robotics and a good fundamental understanding of how different autonomy and non-autonomy-related software sub-systems interact and affect the perception sub-system. For example, we expect you to understand how different perception algorithms would dictate the overall robustness/reliability of the perception system in the presence of edge cases and use this knowledge to refine or improve the overall perception system.
- Ability to take technical leadership on topics related to robot perception.
- Experience in software development for robotics with good understanding of software development lifecycle and design patterns.
- An eye for detail, and commitment, and enthusiasm to see your algorithms working on real robots.
- Good software development skills in C++/Python/Rust.
- Experience in robot software stacks like ROS/ROS2
- Good communication and presentation skills.
- Willingness to travel
