Hbs - Principal Specialist, Robot Navigation
6 days ago
Tasks
- Design and develop path, motion, behavior, and trajectory planning algorithms for mobile robots and provide technical leadership to these topics. This will involve using and adapting existing state-of-the-art algorithms, profiling their accuracy and efficiency, and optimizing them for performance, and working with the rest of the navigation team members to develop best-in-class solutions.
- Research and prototype new planning and control algorithms for robots with different kinematic and dynamic constraints. We’re talking about differential drive, Ackerman or omnidirectional driven robots with different types of payloads.
- Design and develop planning algorithms that consider the dynamic objects in the planning scene and work very closely with the perception and prediction team to realize low latency and high accuracy.
- Conceptualize, design and develop navigation solutions for specific autonomy tasks such as autonomous mapping, teach and repeat navigation, topological navigation etc. These will involve determining the appropriate mapping, localization, perception algorithms and environment representation models to be used in tandem with the planning and control strategies.
- Design and develop modular navigation system managers using tools such as state machines, behavior trees, event processing systems, constraint management systems etc.
- We’re constantly looking to build our IP portfolio; hence you will be expected to write invention disclosures that will lead to patents with the help from our IP lawyers.
- Test navigation systems in both simulation and real robots and participate in agile development with constant feedback to/from researchers and engineers.
- Develop well documented industry ready software modules and libraries predominantly for ROS2 with the assistance from senior software engineers.
- Navigation module will interface heavily with perception and prediction modules. So, there will be requirements to develop new interfaces or tooling to better integrate the planning and control modules into the rest of the autonomy stack.
- In addition to the above, you will also be working on system architecture and design, mapping out a technology roadmap, and executing them together with the rest of the team.
**Qualifications**:
- A degree related to Computer Science or Engineering and 6 years of industry experience.
- A solid foundation in robotics and a good fundamental understanding of how different autonomy and non-autonomy related software sub-systems interact and affect the navigation sub-system. For example, we expect you to understand how different localization approaches would dictate the performance and accuracy of the chosen navigation solution and use this knowledge to refine or improve the overall navigation system.
- Experience in software development for robotics with a good understanding of software development lifecycle and design patterns.
- An eye for detail, commitment, and enthusiasm to see your algorithms working on real robots.
- Technical proficiency in mobile robot navigation-related topics.
- Good software development skills in C++/Python/Rust.
- Experience in ROS/ROS2.
- Good communication and presentation skills.
- Willingness to travel
