This position is within the newly established laboratory of Professor Stephen Baker, a globally recognized leader in antimicrobial resistance and bacteriology. The lab's focus is on developing novel therapeutics and preventative strategies against antimicrobial-resistant pathogens and critical infectious diseases.
**Key Responsibilities**:
**Molecular and Immunological Assays**:
Develop and optimize molecular and virological assays to investigate antimicrobial resistance mechanisms, including techniques such as multiplex PCR, RT-PCR, and whole-genome sequencing.
Conduct immunological studies, such as ELISA, flow cytometry, and cytokine profiling, to understand host-pathogen interactions and immune responses.
**Data Analysis and Reporting**:
Analyse genomic data using bioinformatics tools like R programming and contribute to epidemiological studies of bacterial pathogens.
Maintain meticulous records, draft reports, and present findings to collaborators and stakeholders.
**Lab Management and Collaboration**:
Collaborate on research into vaccine development and immunotherapeutic strategies for combating antimicrobial resistance.
Support lab management activities, including mentoring team members, ensuring safety compliance, and facilitating efficient lab operations.

**Job Requirements**:
At least a Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Biomedical Sciences, Life Sciences, Microbiology, Immunology, or a related field.
A minimum of 1 year of wet lab experience, including expertise in microbiology and immunology.
Proficiency in molecular biology techniques (e.g., cloning, PCR, RT-PCR).
Experience with RNA techniques (e.g., RNA extraction, qPCR, sequencing).
Expertise in bioinformatics tools for genomic analysis (e.g., R programming, GraphPad Prism).
Familiarity with high-throughput screening protocols for antimicrobial compounds.
General lab skills in immunological assays (e.g., ELISA, flow cytometry).
Strong troubleshooting and protocol optimization capabilities.
Effective laboratory management, including SOP development and inventory oversight.
Strong interest in antimicrobial resistance and microbiology.
Highly motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
A passion for learning and acquiring new skills.
