
Centre Manager, Public Makerspaces

**Description**
You are a Maker. You are a jack-of-many-trades and master of few. You go head first into problems that you do not know the answers to. You crave discovery to sate your curiosity. Most importantly, you want to share your experiences with others and serve as the face of our public makerspaces. These learning environments can be found in schools, libraries and other educational facilities.
As a Centre Manager, you lead through example and relish taking on new responsibilities. You want the best experience for patrons visiting your space. You delegate tasks when needed, but take initiative when necessary.
At the same time, you have the discipline required to see to the administrative responsibility of operating a maker space, including programme scheduling, user access, procurement of materials and most importantly, safety training and handling of all tools and equipment. You relish taking on new responsibilities as you want the best experience for the users in your makerspace. You work well within a system and if a part of it does not work, you are not afraid to make suggestions on how to fix it.
**Responsibilities**
- Maintain an overall protocol for the operation of the makerspace, ensuring that the space is clean, comfortable and accommodating for all programmes and audiences.
- Ensure exemplary standards of customer service and frontline relationship building with visitors and users of the makerspace.
- Open and close the makerspace in accordance with established procedures and ensure that health and safety guidelines are adhered to within the makerspace.
- Ensure that all tools and equipment are well-maintained and are in deployable conditions, and to maintain an updated inventory of small parts and materials. When necessary, trigger the relevant technical support and replenishment of materials.
- Develop work schedules and allocate team members to different duties and/or shifts.
- Develop instructional materials for tools and equipment and conduct the relevant briefing and workshops for users in the makerspace.
- Conduct and/or facilitate programmes and activities both on-site and off-site, and to engage well with participants during these interactions.
- Display skill and care whilst conducting technical physical and digital making workshop content.
- Provide one-to-one guidance and on-site tech support of tools and equipment for the users of the makerspace.
- Communicate upcoming programmes and activities at the makerspaces to the public and registered users via various customer engagement platforms such as mailing list, services booking platforms and/or other communication channels.
- Liaise with external partners and interest groups to generate awareness and interest in the public makerspaces.
- Maintain a user database and utilise the information to prepare monthly visitor reports, which will include visitor numbers, programme participation and visitor relationship management.
- Gather and summarise feedback from visitors, users and the community through the distribution and collection of feedback forms, one-to-one conversations and observations of programmes and activities in the makerspace.
- Utilise visitor feedback and visitor trend data to make recommendations for new programmes and activities, and to collaborate with other tinkermind team members to develop and test these programme ideas at the makerspace.
This position will involve deployment on evening and weekend hours.
**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**
- Good customer service orientation and the ability to adapt/respond to different types of characters.
- Good written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to multi-task with a high volume of personal interaction with colleagues, partners and vendors.
- Good attention to details, excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Knowledge of traditional and digital fabrication technologies, including but not limited to 3D printing, laser cutting, sewing, educational robotics kits and micro: bit.
- Strong working ethics and ability to treat documents with confidentiality.
- Strong interpersonal skills, the ability to work effectively in a collaborative setting and provide leadership within a team setting when required.
