Site Reliability Engineer

Skytaps Platform Storage team is responsible for the control plane and data plane for all customer data in over a dozen global data centers, representing well over an exabyte of virtual customer data. As a Site Reliability Engineer, you'll need both excellent people and technical skills. Your main focus will be to ensure the platform runs smoothly and effectively and that our processes and technologies scale with the business. You can expect to spend half of your time writing code: usually provisioning and monitoring automation improvements, bug fixes, and internal technical improvements. You'll need to demonstrate technical credibility to your teammates and have knowledge of both the overall system architecture and the storage subsystems. Youll use your know-how to provide technical guidance and pragmatic results, both at the code, server, and architecture level. The Platform Storage team is a diverse collection of engineers who collaborate to ensure the overall team is effective. The team owns the Platform Storage service end to end, and is responsible for the architectural design, quality assurance, and operation of the service in development, test, and production. There are multiple significant components owned by the Platform Storage team. The first is a Python application that implements the Skytap services core storage service logic and Skytap-internal APIs. Since these APIs allow creating, mounting, and destroying customers virtual machine disks, theyre crucial to Skytaps product. We use a lot of Linux, Puppet, Ansible, Python, Mercurial, and Git. We also use our own software to drive our development and testing efforts. Skytap has a deep technical stack, so in this role youll have plenty of opportunity to learn new things.
