**Primary Purpose of the Position**

The Commercial Analyst will support the development of market analytics for Trading and Shipping and the wider Ampol business (e.g., Strategy, Refining, Finance). The Commercial Analyst will keep track of market developments and develop analysis and insights that inform the relevant groups. The Commercial Analyst will also track competitor activities and perform analysis on competitors as required by Trading and Shipping, Business Development, and Strategy.

**Critical Accountabilities & Outcomes**
- Support the development of LPG/Naphtha/Petchem market analytics in Ampol, enhance existing analysis and generate new ideas to deliver insights.
- Perform cross barrel analysis to determine competition between petchem feedstocks, including the development of models for cracker economics.
- Bring forward market insights and generate ideas for discussion with the trading desk.
- Contribute to weekly market commentary and ad hoc market outlook presentations.
- Track and improve supply and demand data to deliver insights and support trading and shipping decision making. These may include developing arbitrage economics model, tracking cracker/PDH turnarounds and capacity changes, ship tracking, tenders, and macroeconomic trends, amongst others, to form forecasts.
- Develop analytical models to forecast country balances based on fundamental analysis.
- Support the delivery of the analytics roadmap and the integration of big data into the development of analytics tools.
- Work closely with the Projects and Big Data IT team on data ingestion, data cleaning and mapping in the development of new analytics tools.
- Track competitors’ activities where relevant or required through ship tracking and other market intelligence.
- Support analysis and decision making in response to identified market changes, including product specification changes, contracting, regulatory changes, etc. Engage with Trading and Shipping, Strategy, Business Development, or other parts of Ampol where relevant to share market developments and insights through various platforms and channels, improving reporting as required

**Qualifications**:

- Tertiary qualification in business, economics, finance, mathematics, statistics or engineering

Experience
- 2-5 years of market analysis experience, preferably in a commodity trading environment

Knowledge & Skills
- Demonstrate strong market analysis capability and experience.
- Self-starter with a drive for results and able to work independently.
- Excellent communication skills with an ability to engage traders, lead discussions and influence change.
- Commitment to deliver continuous improvement and enhance existing analysis.
- Ability to manage complex and technical arguments.
- High level understanding of business drivers and key areas of influence.
- Excellent organisational skills, able to prioritise and work in a changing environment.
- Willingness to share knowledge with the team
- Excellent Excel skills, VBA, Python and SQL knowledge will be an advantage.
- Good knowledge of PowerBI or other visualisation tools
