The Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine) trains doctors who put patients at the centre of their exemplary care. The School, which offers both undergraduate and graduate programmes, is named after local philanthropist Tan Sri Dato Lee Kong Chian. Established in 2010 by Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, in partnership with Imperial College London, LKCMedicine aims to be a model for innovative medical education and a centre for transformative research. The School’s primary clinical partner is the National Healthcare Group, a leader in public healthcare recognised for the quality of its medical expertise, facilities and teaching. The School is transitioning to an NTU medical school ahead of the 2028 successful conclusion of the NTU-Imperial partnership to set up a Joint Medical School. In August 2024, we welcomed our first intake of the NTU MBBS programme, that has been recently enhanced to include themes like precision medicine and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare, with an expanded scope in the medical humanities. Graduates from the five-year undergraduate medical degree programme will have a strong understanding of the scientific basis of medicine, with an emphasis on technology, data science and the humanities.
The laboratory of Assoc. Prof. Andrew Tan Nguan Soon at LKCMedicine (Novena Campus) is seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant to contribute to cutting-edge research in metabolic diseases, including obesity, chronic liver disease, and cancer metabolism. By leveraging animal disease models and bioinformatics approaches, our lab aims to unravel disease mechanisms and identify novel therapeutic strategies. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to advanced biomedical research while developing expertise in translational science.
We are seeking a dedicated Research Assistant to support our investigations into the role of gut microbiome in steatotic liver disease. This full-time, on-site position at LKCMedicine (Novena Campus) offers the opportunity to work under the mentorship of Assoc. Prof. Andrew Tan and Dr. Cheng Hong Sheng, contributing to impactful research at the intersection of microbiome science and metabolic liver disease. The role will be responsible to run experiments, collect and process clinical samples, and maintain laboratory operations.
Key Responsibilities:
The Research Assistant is expected to support the lab’s research tasks, including but not limited to the following:
- Perform animal maintenance, experimentation and husbandry- Collect and process clinical biosamples- Document and maintain records of work.- Participate in regular laboratory upkeeping- Provide administrative support including budget tracking, laboratory item purchases and new staff trainings- Perform experiments including histology, cell culture, microscopy, molecular biology assays etc.- Perform data analysis, including transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics and image analysis
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor in Biomedical Sciences or Life Sciences- Experience in animal experimentation, histology and/or molecular biology techniques like PCR, western blot and FACS is preferred- Holding RCULA animal certification is a bonus- Good communication (written and verbal) skills- Strong interpersonal skills for collaborative work environment- Well-organized and able to work independentlyHiring Institution: LKC
