**Duties**:
This position is located under the Office of Public and Governmental Affairs, Information and Privacy Governance Division in Anywhere in the U.S. (remote job).

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a Government Information Specialist with Bureau-wide responsibility providing technical advice, processing requests, and serving as a consultant for the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and the Privacy Act (PA).

As a Government Information Specialist, GS-0306-12, your typical work assignments may include:

- Advising and directing appropriate actions regarding all aspects of collecting, disseminating and maintaining FOIA information;
- Conducting reviews of records retrieved, determining the information to be released or withheld, preparing responsive documents, determining the applicable fees, and determining if waivers are appropriate;
- Consulting with internal officials and external entities to provide FOIA and PA information, negotiating the release of information, resolving problems, and coordinating responses;
- Responding to inquiries during the administrative appeals stage and assisting with FOIA matters involved in litigation.

**Specialized experience** is demonstrated experience, which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. Experience must be in the normal line of progression or must be related to the work of the position advertised and must be reflected in resume. **Examples of specialized experience include**:

- reviewing requests for information, utilizing the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and the Privacy Act (PA); and
- researching U.S. Codes, directives, regulations, and judicial decisions applicable to Freedom of Information and Privacy, to ensure compliance; and
- screening FOIA material prior to release to ensure documents are releasable and do not conflict with exemptions of the FOIA and PA; and
- consulting with internal and external entities to obtain information and drafting replies to information requests; and
- maintaining records and preparing Privacy Impact Assessments and Systems of Records Notices.
