**The Role**:
**Where you fit in**
This is a junior position supporting the delivery of risk management within the Global T&S (Trading & Supply) Credit organization for all Operational credit matters to deliver best-in-class credit support to the T&S business in the East region.
**What’s the role?**
The team is responsible for the efficient and effective management of credit risk and should strive for operational excellence.
Your accountabilities include the following:
- Investigating, understanding, and supporting the complex T&S control framework that governs commercial fuels in respect to credit accountabilities and working with colleagues in the global operational excellence teams - Receivables, SBO (Shell Business Operations), Structured Finance and Underwriting & Ops, in addition to colleagues in other hub locations.
- Ensuring that the credit risk in the portfolio is aligned to expectations and that abnormal credit risks have associated abnormal margins as compensation.
- Regular interfacing with FO (Finance Operations) and FO performance monitoring. Accountable for building strong relationships with key stakeholders including GMs, BMs (Business Manager) and FM (Finance Manager) with multiple LoBs with regards to sign off on operational credit strategies and execution, up to and including ensuring the translation of risk appetite into credit (risk taking) decisions.
- Credit representation within the country in meetings with internal stakeholders and/or external conference. Supporting the Commercial Credit Manager who retains ultimate accountability to the Regional T&S Commercial Credit Manager for these activities.
- Driving best practice in delivery of efficient and effective credit support across all portfolios in T&S as it evolves in supporting the Energy Transition.
**What we need from you**
We hope to see as many of the following:
- Good track record of stakeholder engagement skills. Demonstrate ability to withstand pressure and pushback from commercial stakeholders, who may have different personal drivers, as well as the ability to make decisions (or recommend positions for senior team members) in extremely short timeframes and to explain the rationale for such decisions in a robust and convincing manner.
- The role requires levelheaded decision making and involves maximizing commercial opportunities where credit can play a part in delivering strong margins whilst taking acceptable credit risks.
- Can meet with customers to discuss a range of issues (credit risk, cash flow, and growth potential) while maintaining a solid relationship. Managing Credit activities in highly volatile situations and must be adaptable and have an understanding of risk, and how external conditions can affect the business.
- Win the respect of commercial stakeholders by demonstrating a fundamental grasp of the key commercial considerations as well as an ability to weigh up and decide on the trade-offs involved between profit and credit risk.
- Workload experiences inevitable peaks and troughs, which will mean some periods of extremely high workload (in addition to other periods, where this individual may support other areas as required by the broader team).
- Manage to understand the complex mix of T&S credit management systems currently deployed across the global credit organization, and the interaction of these systems with the underlying trading systems (e.g., Energy Credit, GCAP, GSAP), and contribute perspectives towards a long-term strategy to harmonize or otherwise derive the optimal outcome in terms of senior management reporting and day-to-day operational functionality for the credit team members themselves.
- Effectively collaborate in certain activities with the Global Credit Underwriting, Receivables Management, Trade Finance and SBO Credit teams, while retaining ultimate accountabilities for all relationships.
- Work effectively with other parts of finance, especially the Finance in the Business, Finance Operations and other Risk and Compliance teams, such that Credit is perceived by Commercial as part of a coherent "finance voice".
- Give enthusiastic and vocal support to the Trading & Supply Credit organizational changes, the benefits of which will in many cases be felt in the longer term, while continuing to meet the ongoing needs to the global T&S businesses in the immediate term. In particular, it will be important to reach out to share knowledge and experience with colleagues based in other T&S Hubs and FO Centres.
