**Key Responsibilities**:

- **Develop Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)**:

- Collaborate with other professionals (e.g., psychologists, therapists, counselors) and parents to create and update Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for each student.
- Establish specific academic, social, and behavioral goals that are tailored to the student's strengths and areas of need.
- **Adapt Curriculum and Instruction**:

- Modify and adapt general education curriculum to meet the needs of students with various disabilities, including learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, intellectual disabilities, physical disabilities, and emotional/behavioral disorders.
- Use a variety of teaching methods, materials, and technology to engage students and make lessons accessible (e.g., visual aids, hands-on activities, assistive devices).
- **Provide Direct Instruction**:

- Offer one-on-one or small group instruction to provide targeted support and reinforcement.
- **Behavioral Support and Classroom Management**:

- Implement positive behavioral interventions and strategies to manage classroom behavior and improve student engagement.
- Support students in developing social skills, emotional regulation, and positive interactions with peers and adults.
- Maintain a structured and predictable environment to help students feel safe and supported.
- **Assessment and Monitoring**:

- Regularly assess student progress through formal and informal assessments, observations, and other data.
- Track student performance on IEP goals and make adjustments as necessary.
- Provide feedback to students, parents, and school teams regarding academic progress and behavioral improvements.
- **Collaboration and Communication**:

- Work closely with general education teachers, counselors, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, and other specialists to ensure a holistic approach to each student’s education.
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians about student progress, challenges, and strategies for supporting learning at home.
- Attend IEP meetings, staff meetings, and professional development workshops to stay current with best practices in special education.
- **Provide Emotional and Social Support**:

- Create a supportive classroom environment where students feel valued and understood.
- Foster students' social and emotional development, helping them build self-esteem and cope with challenges.
- Support students in developing independence, self-advocacy, and resilience.
- **Assist with Transition Planning**:

- Work with students, families, and the school team to plan for transitions between grade levels, school years, or post-school life (e.g., moving from school to work or higher education).
- Provide career exploration, job readiness skills, and social skills training for students transitioning to adulthood.
- **Professional Development**:

- Continuously seek to improve teaching practices through ongoing professional development.
- Stay informed about the latest research, teaching techniques, and educational tools that support students with special needs.
- **Documentation and Record-Keeping**:

- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress, behavior, assessments, and IEP meetings.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations regarding special education services.

**Required Skills and Qualifications**:

- **Education**: A Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field is typically required. A Master’s degree in Special Education may be preferred or required for some positions.
- **Certification/Licensing**: Special Needs Teachers must be certified to teach special education in their state or country. This usually involves passing exams and fulfilling continuing education requirements.
- **Experience**: Experience working with students with disabilities is highly preferred. Specific experience may depend on the type of disabilities the teacher will be working with (e.g., autism, learning disabilities, emotional/behavioral disorders).
- **Skills**:

- Knowledge of various disabilities and special education laws.
- Strong communication skills to collaborate with students, parents, and other educators.
