Physical Scientist

**Duties**:

- You will establish goals, conceive, organize, direct, and defend integrated science and technology programs (funding categories 6.1, 6.2, and 6.3) designed to provide innovative technologies that improve Naval warfighting capability.
- You will assess the importance of science and technology trends and innovations, noting gaps in knowledge and technology for meeting the operational requirements in your program areas.
- You will execute programs in support of the Power and Energy Focus Area and the Undersea Systems, Payloads, and Weapons Focus Area.
- You will participate in group endeavors involving many interested parties and perspectives to help establish future DoN Science and Technology needs and opportunities.
- You will implement science and technology programs through the management and execution of individual projects and tasks.

- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

**Qualifications**:

- Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade level or pay band (GS 11-13 OR NP-03) in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing most or all of the following: 1) Demonstrating expert level technical knowledge and experience in the performance of and/or management of science and technology in the fields of materials science and technology, physics, and physical chemistry; 2) Leading complex systems development and/or the management of large scale research and development programs, especially those involving new and emerging technologies; 3) Working with technical specialists from a wide variety of disciplines to translate general requirements or objectives into clear technical issues, and to formulate prioritized science and engineering plans to resolve those issues; 4) Planning, programming, budgeting, evaluation, and analysis of research and development programs; and 5) Exhibiting the ability to prepare and deliver oral and written presentations to a wide variety of audiences ranging from Flag Officers to the general public.- Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

**Education**:
Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess.
- Advanced Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. or

Combination of education and experience
- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
