**Overview**

We are looking for an experienced social worker to join our dedicated team of Orientation and Mobility Specialists and IT Trainers. As a social worker, you will play a vital role in supporting and advocating for individuals with vision impairment, contributing to our mission of providing holistic services for those in need.

Utilising your expertise in casework, group work and community resources, you will collaborate with clients’ immediate communities to foster a conducive environment for clients to be independent and attain their life goals. Your role may involve assisting clients in connecting with government and community resources when necessary.

This newly established position at GDS presents an exciting opportunity to effect positive changes for both staff and clients. You will work alongside the Orientation and Mobility Specialists and IT Trainers, reporting to the General Manager and Director in charge.

**Requirements**:

- You must have at least a Bachelor’s Degree/Post Graduate Diploma/Professional Degree in Psychology, Social Work or equivalent
- Required language(s): English and one more language (Bahasa Malaysia or Mandarin). Dialects will be an advantage
- At least 4 Year(s) of working experience in the related field is required for this position as you will be working independently
- Required Skill(s): 4 years of case work experience. Supervision experience will be an advantage
- Basic counselling skills
- Experience in disability case management is preferred but not critical as training on understanding vision impairment will be provided
- Proactive, resilient, empathetic and a team player with a can-do attitude

**Responsibilities**:
**Casework**
- Conduct initial admission with Orientation & Mobility Specialists
- Work with the Orientation & Mobility Specialists to customise rehabilitation programmes, ensuring comprehensive support for clients in regaining mobility and independence.

**Includes the following**:

- Engage effectively with clients, their families, and immediate community to achieve rehabilitation programme goals.
- Link up with community resources to support clients’ needs
- Monitor clients’ progress; develop and review intervention strategies with Orientation & Mobility Specialists
- Document and evaluate case outcomes
- Advocate for individuals with vision impairment and guide dog users through outreach collaborations with the Community Partnership Team and external stakeholders
- Provide supervision, guidance and advice to support staff and volunteers

**Client/Caregiver-Centric Programmes**
- Train the core group of volunteers who provide social support to clients
- Plan and co-create client-centric sessions as part of the vision rehabilitation programme to enable clients to attain their independence goals (sharing sessions, coping management workshops etc)
