DESIGNATION : Research Engineer (1-year contract), SCIS
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop embedded software stacks to integrate multimedia (audio/video) sensing with other standard sensors (e.g. inertial sensors), so as to support an activity-triggered sensing paradigm
- Create and code novel algorithms for mobility/activity recognition and prediction, utilizing such inertial-sensing based analytics to optimize the overall multi-modal sense-making pipeline
- Conduct experimental studies to quantify the resulting system performance and generate appropriate analytical artifacts (e.g., graphs, reports) to document such performance
- Support the research team to produce high-quality research publications
QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems or closely related disciplines
- 1+ year of relevant research experience in inertial sensing-based mobility or activity recognition algorithms and/or systems development
- Strong programming skills in one or more key languages (C/C++, Python) is essential
- Project level experience with mobility and location tracking technologies (e.g., fingerprinting, AOA/TDOA techniques) is strongly desired
- Experience with AI/ML frameworks and tools (e.g., TensorFlow, Weka), as well as standard ML techniques (e.g., SVMs, Random Forests) is highly desirable
- Ability to work cooperatively as part of a small, agile academic research team is essential
- Record of publications in academic venues related to pervasive and ubiquitous computing is desirable
