Mechanical Hod

The HOD, as an effective leader, will set high standards for performance and values, validate efforts and contributions, and ensure cooperative interaction in a trusting, respectful work environment. The HOD reports directly to the Engineering Director and shall be responsible for cascading down the company vision and all appropriate information, to the department membership. Resource management forms a significant part of the role. The HOD is accountable for maintaining appropriate staffing levels and resourcing proposals and projects with suitable staff. The technical competency and commercial awareness of the department need to continuously evolve, and the responsibility for technical delivery remains with the HOD.

**Responsibilities**:

- Design, detailing, specification preparation, and construction oversight for the full range of Mechanical packages for the design and build of advanced technology and life science projects;
- Determining and defining sustainability targets;
- Review of the design of Mechanical systems, produced by other team members, for technical compliance with specified and contracted client/customer requirements;
- Formulating and driving any necessary recovery plans relating to design, Cost. Schedule
- Representing Mechanical Department in monthly HOD Meetings;
- Performs monthly department meetings and provides a status update on the development of projects and business development;
- Informs and updates on latest technical developments and codes/ standards updates in the industry in regards to Mechanical engineering;
- Mentoring the Lead Engineers with the intent of securing properly trained personnel to ensure the continual expansion of the company.
- Ensure staff are trained to regulatory codes (e.g. FDA) and local engineering codes, and are kept aware of industry innovation, developments, and best practices
- Support all Mechanical staff in learning and advancing their careers; Train, mentor, and develops high-performance employees
- Cooperating with the Commercial Group to develop the associated cost during the programming, conceptual, and detailed design phases, for BLS Projects;
- Support tendering and estimating activities of Mechanical works for projects prior to award;
- Establishes the best integrated and cost-effective Mechanical solutions in balance with growth plans;

- Work with Quantity surveyor during Tendering and Estimating Activities of Mechanical works;
- Implementing and maintaining the design checklist and tracking program;
- Attending and being the focal point of competence during internal design reviews;
- Maintain lessons learned database and brief Department on same; Act as a Technical controller and make sure the Mechanical submission and approvals from local authorities are carried out

**Qualification**
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering; Honours Degree preferred
- Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering (preferable)
- Diploma holders with additional 2 - 3 years’ experience unless equated with professional certifications
- Construction Safety Course for Project Manager
- 10 - 12 years of professional-related experience including 5 years in a leadership capacity
- At least 10 years of Design and Construction experience in a high-tech industry or other multiple discipline-orientated construction business
- At least five years of experience in a leading related position of a fast-track project
- At least five years of experience in managing staff, coaching/mentoring, and developing people
- Worked in Singapore and fully aware of the Singapore local Authority Laws and Regulations as well as authority approval processes
- Experience in implementing change strategies internally, strategic and operational planning and implementation, process and project management (having led change management processes)
- Technical knowledge and understanding of all stages of Engineering Design and Construction for Mechanical systems from, Preliminary Design to Commissioning and Handover
- Technical knowledge and understanding of project execution processes in a fast-track environment
- Extensive knowledge of local codes and regulations for design implementation, and local construction knowledge
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office software like Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
- Affinity for technical problem solving
- Proficient and confident in technical Communication
- Mechanical Specification Writing/Editing
- Project Management Understanding
- Delegation of Responsibility to Achieve Design and Schedule Targets
