To perform this job requires wide-ranging expertise and skill-sets. The position performs a variety of duties using deployed engineering and office tools under general supervision and guidance from the Director of Global Trade and the Trade Compliance Manager. In this position you will be responsible for a variety of analyst functions for the Corporate Legal department including, but not limited to: assigning and validating harmonized tariff classifications to materials; conducting general clerical duties; maintaining various department records; maintaining company Customs Compliance Program policies and procedures. The individual will be responsible for auditing US and International Customs documentation/data and internal documentation/data against Customs entries to ensure that the company and its subsidiaries maintain a high-level of compliance with US and International Customs regulations.
This position also includes resolving import and export issues resulting from missing data, such as harmonized tariff classifications, export control classifications, license determinations, valuation, and country of origin. This position also assists in maintaining this master data in SAP.
**ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES**:
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop the Annual Trade Compliance Audit Plan utilizing a risk-based approach with the assistance of the Manager, Global Trade Compliance and other team members.
- Update and execute the company-wide export and import audit program. Provide counsel and advice to management related to the development of Management Action Plans to correct audit findings/control deficiencies/inefficiencies. Prepare audit reports and memorandums to concisely communicate audit results.
- Perform follow-up activities to ensure that Management Action Plans are completed as agreed to and on a timely basis.
- Prepare quarterly reporting as to the status of the Annual Audit Plan and Management Action Plans for the Director, Global Trade and the Trade Compliance Manager.
- Perform or assist with special projects as they arise.
- Working with the Director, Global Trade Compliance and the Trade Compliance Manager, monitor regulatory and legislative changes in order to ensure that policies and procedures are current, determine the potential impact to the company and adjust the audit program/approach as deemed necessary.
- Identify potential best practices to improve the quality and efficiency of trade compliance activities.
- Evaluate possible improvements in the use of cost management programs such as, Foreign Trade Zones, and Free Trade Agreements.
- Update/enhance the current employee training program and associate training materials. Ensure required training is completed and documented.
- Work with Customs brokers and freight forwarders to help reduce barriers to rapid movement of goods
- Work with internal stakeholders to improve compliance with regulations
- Ensure proper classifications are maintained in the company’s business software system (SAP) for multiple countries
- Coordinate harmonized tariff classification and export control classification of materials with Product Management and Engineering
- Support the development, maintenance, and delivery of internal training programs as necessary
- Assist in the review, development, and implementation of Compliance procedures while complying with all federal regulations
- Work closely and collaboratively with all AE legal entities, business units and functional areas to build upon existing compliance practices such as developing and revising policies and procedures, promoting training, and conducting assessments
- Assist in creation of control plans to ensure compliance, monitoring for changes to requirements, identifying areas of non-compliance, and implementing and tracking actions to restore compliance
- Assist with researching, documenting and communicating routine compliance-related issues
- Monitors Customhouse brokers to ensure timeliness of clearance and accuracy of data transmitted by service providers on behalf of AE for multiple countries
- Coordinates corrections of entries with Customs brokers
- Administers the company’s Commercial Invoice system and serves as a point of contact for employees
- Prepares and processes export documentation in the company’s Commercial Invoice system
- Monitors transactions in the Global Trade System (GTS) module of SAP and performs releases of shipments on hold for export compliance purposes
- Reviews End Use Certificates and approves or declines transactions based on research of the companies involve, their business, the end use, their customer base, location, etc.
