Technology companies are grappling with the complexity of production environments, distracting engineers from their core task of software development. Engineers are drowning in a sea of observability data, but still require manual intervention to solve problems.

We envision a future where engineers can concentrate on software development while Cleric takes care of the production environment. Our mission is to develop autonomous software that can manage, repair, and optimize itself—the holy grail.

**About the role**:
We’re hiring a Founding Software Engineer. It’s our most critical hire. You will own the development of the core of our AI agent. Everything from its reasoning, learning, and integrations. You'll help keep engineering standards high and set company culture, define the experience for our earliest customers, and lay the foundation for all future team members.

**Ideally, these qualities describe you**:

- You love building tools for fellow engineers. You consider it a craft.
- You have strong software engineering fundamentals and have opinions on how to build robust, scalable, and secure software.
- You’ve operated infrastructure at scale. You’ve seen it done right, and you’ve seen it gone wrong. Kubernetes, Kafka, Spark, microservices, and all the usual suspects.
- You love building with generative AI and have had some prior ML/AI experience.
- You have experience in Rust, C++, Go, Kotlin, or Scala. Our stack is Python, TypeScript, and Go right now, but some experience in high-performance languages is important.

**Examples of what you’ll do**:

- Own the development of our product, Cleric. Everything from the LLM-based reasoning engine, memory module, evaluation stack, simulation environment, and more.
- Ship a high-scale agent service capable of concurrently managing thousands of remote services and integrations.
- Help us iterate toward product-market fit in an early-stage, open ended environment.
- Embody our end users (engineers with operational responsibilities), immersing yourself in their needs, pains, and aspirations.

**Interview process**:

- Screen: A quick call with one of the founders.
- Product assessment: We'll deep dive into some of the product, UX, and go-to-market challenges that we're faced with.
- Technical assessment: We will work through a system design problem with you. This will be related to the work you do daily.
- Culture fit: We’ll talk through your background, and what drives you, and share a bit more about our team and culture.
