Supports hardware and software installation, configuration, operation and ongoing maintenance of the computer/data center. Operates, monitors and performs basic troubleshooting of equipment, networks, and data processing/batching; assists with logging and documentation of equipment and processes. Responsibilities may also include cabling, racking and server installations.
**Working at NTT**
The role of Data Center Operations Technician is responsible for carrying out a range of services which enable the maintenance of data center equipment and processes including but not limited to technical support and performing system / network installations, configuration, etc. to ensure optimum operations.
**Key Role and Responsibilities**:
- Provide technical support by performing system / network installation, configuration and troubleshooting to ensure optimum operations.
- Carry out preventative maintenance of data center equipment and devices.
- Analyze servers and network systems to identify and initiate repair of firmware issues.
- Monitor system processes to ensure smooth operations.
- Maintain and monitor tape rotation logs, security logs for data center access.
- Address customer device configuration including hardware modification, operating system installation, mounting of peripheral devices and cabling needs.
- Responsible for all fiber cabling including installation and testing in addition to troubleshooting connectivity issues with previously deployed copper or fiber cabling.
- Identify and resolve simple server hardware failures to include the replacement of failed hardware components.
- Troubleshoot operating systems storage issues such as disk management and other technologies.
- Monitor the day-to-day performance of servers, maintaining an optimally controlled environment for servers, and troubleshooting network and server problems.
- Protect company data by preventing the overheating of data center components.
- Runn hardware diagnostics and replacing failing parts in a timely manner.
- Monitor all network processes to ensure the smooth flow of data across the network.
- Document processes and keeping event logs.
- Upgrade internal system components, including CPUs, memory, hard drives, and network cables.
- Triage and resolve trouble tickets for all devices.
- Evaluate heating and cooling systems to ensure they are operational and can meet equipment temperature conditions.
**Knowledge, skills and attributes**:
- Demonstrate high levels of passion and enthusiasm when providing support to all customers and co-workers
- Communicate effectively and concisely with relevant stakeholders
- Conversant with building, repairing and upgrading required hardware components
- Possess good knowledge of customer ticketing software and internal ticketing system to provide proper customer service
- Possess sound knowledge of operating systems, networking, security, and storage technologies
- Proficiency with productivity software
- Skilled in conducting tests to identify and fix faults in a computer/network system
**Academic Qualifications and Certifications**:
- High School diploma
- Relevant vendor certifications, e.g., CCNA Data Center or CCNP (Data Center) or JNCIP (Data Center), etc.
**Experience required**:
- Linux /Unix administration and server hardware troubleshooting experience
- Experience with monitoring tools will be an added advantage
- Some networking hardware experience including copper and optical fiber cabling, switches, and routers
- Some experience in the field of computer networking
