Job Responsibilities:
Managing all work of the department in providing the ship’s propulsion, steering, electrical services, domestic/hotel services, fire extinguishing systems and cable handling machinery, etc. and keeping the Commander closely informed of all relevant matters.

Leading, guiding and delegating to subordinate officers as necessary.

Direct controlling of the department or ensuring the presence of the second engineer when the ship is entering or leaving port.

Taking alternate duty with the second engineer during cable laying /repair operations; taking direct charge during important stages of the lay/repair.

Controlling and authorising the department’s requisitions for fuel oil, lubricating oil and stores.

Ensuring all plans and maintenance are carried out as scheduled.

Making regular inspections of all machinery and areas under the department’s control.

Supervising and assisting, as necessary, in important maintenance and troubleshooting of major repairs.

Ensuring all work records are correctly kept and submitting all returns required by the Technical, Services Department.

Renewing of the ship’s certificates kept by the department.

Ensuring that the department’s safety regulations are always observed.

Keeping abreast of current developments.

Ensuring all equipment in his charge is maintained in a condition acceptable to statutory classification authorities.

Supervising all repair work carried out by local contractors.

Ensuring that sufficient outfits and consumables are kept on board.

Job Requirements:
Holding a valid Class 1 Certificate of Competency (Motorship) for Marine Engineer Officer meeting STCW95 requirements.

Have served onboard modern foreign-going vessels as Chief Engineer.

Possession of a valid Seaman’s Book and STCW certificate covering the functions performed on board.

Willing to work on board foreign sea-going vessels for months away from home

Knowledge of hydraulics will be an added advantage

COVID-19 considerations:
All customers are required to wear a mask, common surfaces are sanitised regularly, vaccination requirements. All other precautionary measures shall be based on the Government directives.

**Experience**:

- foreign going vessels: 5 years (preferred)
- hydraulics: 5 years (preferred)

License/Certification:

- Class 1 Certificate of Competency (Motorship) (preferred)
- Seaman’s Book and STCW certificate (preferred)
