**Speech-Language Pathologist**

**Job Overview**

The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) is responsible to prevent, screen, identify, assess, diagnose, refer, provide intervention for, and counsel students with, or who are at risk for, articulation, fluency, voice, language, communication, and related disabilities. The SLP is expected to (a) treat articulation, fluency, voice, and language impairments; (b) identify strengths and address the functional consequences of the impairment; and (c) support the student regarding the impact of their disability.The SLP is responsible to his/her immediate supervisor for the utilization of effective teaching and clinical methods.

**Specific Responsibilities**

The SLP is administratively responsible to the Principal and is a _collaborative _member of the teaching _team supporting a student and their family. _
- Identify and assess the communication skills of students at-risk for classroom difficulties, which include knowledge of standardized measures and non-standardized procedures, as well as classroom-based assessments.
- Conduct independent evaluations to accurately assess students’ speech, language, and/or communication disorders.
- Plan and provide appropriate individual and group therapy to students consistent with speech and language goals to improve communication skills and classroom performance contained in the individualized educational plan.
- _Be familiar with integrated models of tiered support to students with varying levels of need. That may include consultation with teachers, learning support staff, counseling, and teacher teams as well as in-class service delivery and overall program planning. _
- Communicates clearly, both orally and in written form, to students, parents, teachers and significant others regarding the student’s accomplishment of therapy goals and needs.
- Effectively manage each group of students while providing for a variety of ability levels and educational backgrounds.
- Accurately and regularly assess student progress in therapy.
- Continuously monitor student learning and make appropriate modifications of goals and strategies to meet students’ needs.
- Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized accurate and up-to-date reports and records of student progress and attendance and classroom supplies and materials.
- Participate in the SLPs’ weekly Professional Learning Community meetings.
- Engage parents and students in the learning process through frequent and meaningful communications about student progress.
- Engage in department/team planning, curriculum review, budgeting and other activities.
- Interact cooperatively with other staff members in the development of cohesive curriculum materials and the establishment of instructional goals.
- Cooperate with and participate in the planning and evaluation of the school program.
- Participate in professional development activities (coursework, in-service programs, and by attending professional meetings and conferences) to keep current and improve best practice in speech-language pathology at SAS.
- Employ technology (computer, video, internet, etc) as appropriate to enhance instruction.

**Other Responsibilities**
- Engage with the administration in a committed effort to improve one’s own instructional skills.
- Openly support and abide by all school policies and procedures.
- Model the ‘Core Values’ in interactions with the school community
- Liaise with the Principal, taking on tasks as assigned, including all school goals.

- Complete child safeguarding training and adhere to all safeguarding responsibilities and guidelines.
- Engage with students in meaningful activities beyond the classroom which extend learning experiences for students (coaching, organizing field trips, sponsorship of clubs, events, or community service projects, etc).

- Represent SAS with students, parents, staff, and broader school community in a professional manner.

- Recognize and strengthen personal performance through self analysis of actions, participating in professional development activities, exploring educational and clinical research, participating in professional organizations, and through formal renewal programs.

**Requirements**:

- Degree in Speech-Language Pathology (Bachelor’s, Masters, Doctorate) as outlined by the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) or other relevant professional association. Meets the cred
