This job will comprise a mix of education-related activities including, but not limited to: teaching delivery, curriculum development and review, and involvement in assessment activities, scholarship and medical education research. There may also be opportunities to engage with pastoral care through the School’s House System. The precise roles and responsibilities will be planned with reference to the successful applicant’s experience and skills, and how these fit with the roles and responsibilities for teaching medical students at LKCMedicine throughout their studies.
This post will offer excellent organisational and direct teaching experience at the undergraduate level, and experience of working within a dynamic, multi-professional MBBS team.
The post holder will:
- Provide support to the wider medical education team (including Assistant Dean Years 1 & 2, Module and Course Leads, fellow Education Associates etc) at LKCMedicine and liaise with the wider education teams in the Office of Medical Education, to ensure the curriculum is contemporaneous and runs efficiently;- Act as a TBL Facilitator (approx. 15-20 sessions per year), attend relevant training sessions and regular TBL facilitation team meetings;- Undertake other areas of teaching and associated activities as required (e.g., TBL or exam question writing, curriculum changes) in-line with your background and areas of expertise, and as time allows (e.g. TBL Content Expert, Foundations of Clinical Practice Facilitator);- Contribute to responding to, and developing Course Evaluation processes, for specified areas of the curriculum;- Contribute to assessment by writing and quality assuring examination items when needed, and participating in examination item standard setting and review meetings and follow-up with revision of examination items as required;- Contribute to medical education scholarship and research;- Potentially provide pastoral care and mentorship to students as a House Tutor;- Support other education and service activities as required (e.g., student outreach events)
**Requirements**:
- MBBS or Masters/PhD equivalent essential (e.g., basic science, education or psychology background)- Postgraduate qualification in medical education desirable- Teaching experience (undergraduate medical education, if possible)- Excellent communication skills- An enthusiasm for undergraduate education- Ability to work well in a team but also to self-direct effectively as required- Adaptable and flexible
This is a 3 years contract appointment.
