CI is one of the global leaders in using natural climate solutions (NCS) to combat climate change. There is significant growth in the demand for high-quality conservation projects that can access the voluntary and compliance carbon markets and CI is rapidly expanding its portfolio of high-quality carbon projects to meet this demand. CI Asia Pacific (CIAP) has recently launched the Asia Pacific Technical Assistance Facility (TAF), a multi-donor facility, to provide technical support and invest in NCS projects and enabling conditions. Projects include REDD+, landscape restoration, and Blue Carbon mechanisms.

Based out of the Asia Pacific Field Division (APFD) in Singapore, CI is seeking a Regional Geographic Information System (GIS) Coordinator to provide technical support to the APFD Carbon Development team on spatial analysis and remote sensing. The coordinator will be responsible for maintaining a comprehensive spatial database for the CI target landscapes in APFD, and to provide technical assistance on GIS, remote-sensing, and spatial analysis, including the monitoring of land-use change. This role will entail the collection, storage, analysis, mapping, imaging, and communication of geospatial information. Additionally, the GIS Coordinator will help manage the GIS Intern program which typically has two interns supporting a range of project activities.

As a member of the APFD carbon development team, the Regional GIS Coordinator will work closely with the technical team, project implementers such as CI’s country offices in Asia Pacific, and external partners, on developing maps for carrying out screening and scoping of project opportunities. These maps are a key component of the Project Rapid Assessment (PRA) and Project Idea Note (PIN) used to screen and scope projects respectively. Additionally, the Regional GIS Coordinator will engage as a member of the technical team by preparing maps for reports, presentations, and communication materials

**RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Support the maintenance of a geospatial database containing GIS, remote-sensing, and other spatial and non-spatial data for key landscapes where CI works in the APFD, including the location of key watersheds, water bodies, and infrastructure or commercial development activities.
- Continually identify, acquire and enrich the database with external spatial data relevant to CI APFD’s conservation and carbon development activities.
- Ensure the spatial database is appropriately stored, regularly backed up, and can be accessible by the APFD Carbon Development team.
- Provide GIS support to the CI Asia Pacific Carbon Development team, including producing spatial data and information, and developing maps for spatial analysis to screen and scope projects.
- Develop high-quality maps for reports, presentations, and other communication materials.
- Assist in the preparation of datasets and data analysis required for presentation to country programs, partner organizations, donors, and stakeholders.

Additional Responsibilities
- Support the analysis of remote-sensing data (e.g. satellite images) in order to assess land-use and land-use change in the
target landscapes.
- Undertake ground-truthing as needed, in conjunction with field staff, in order to verify the maps and spatial analyses produced and to determine levels of accuracy.
- Provide technical assistance to field staff and CI country program staff on spatial data compilation, logging, analysis, and access.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

**WORKING CONDITIONS**
- This is a full-time position with the flexibility to adjust to deadlines and time zones.
- Travel within the region may be required, often this will entail travel to remote locations with rustic conditions.
- Flexibility in work schedule is required in order to accommodate time differences between field offices in Asia Pacific in multiple time zones.

**QUALIFICATIONS**

**Required**
- 2 to 4 years of work experience.
- Capable of producing attractive and professional print-ready maps suitable for wall display, reports, communication materials, and field use.
- Excellent practical knowledge of spatial analysis skills, land cover/land use class interpretation, field mapping and GPS use, geo-referencing, and registering of satellite imagery.
