Nature-based Solutions
**OFFICE LOCATION**:
Singapore
**WHO WE ARE**:
The Nature Conservancy (TNC) has shown that nature-based solution (NbS)—sustainably managing, restoring and protecting forests and other lands—can provide up to a third of the solution to climate change by 2030. NbS can also provide a range of other benefits, such as protecting biodiversity, improving watershed function, increasing resilience, and supporting sustainable livelihoods. As public concern about climate change drives corporate and other net-zero commitments, interest in carbon markets is growing exponentially, and in particular how such markets can support the scaling of NbS. Around the world, we are responding directly to dozens of leading companies, all of whom are committed to reaching their net-zero commitments and require voluntary and compliance carbon market participation to achieve their commitments.
Southeast Asia is facing unprecedented demand for carbon abatement and hence, an unparalleled opportunity to access and direct climate finance to NbS that deliver not only climate outcomes, but outcomes for biodiversity and people as well. In Asia Pacific, TNC has joined with 7 other NGOs to form the Southeast Asia Climate and Nature-based Solution (SCeNe) Coalition* in recognition of the scale of action required, the time-bound opportunity for impact and the risks to people and nature if we do not act collaboratively to speed up and scale up design and implementation of high-integrity and high-quality NbS. The extensive experience of these environmental NGOs in the development and execution of NbS offers a powerful, shared platform to inform and influence this rapidly growing sector. In the first three years, the Coalition will focus on three inter-connected workstreams that together will scale NbS in the region: i) enable easy access to the documentation, data and methods needed to develop and monitor ‘triple benefit’ NbS projects; ii) showcase high-integrity projects to inspire others; and iii) support national and local organizations to access carbon finance and secure funds for conservation.

**WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER**:
The NbS Partnerships Lead leads the strategic positioning and external presence of the SCeNe Coalition (under the guidance of the Steering Committee), as a key vehicle for accelerating implementation of high-quality NbS projects and sharping carbon market development across Southeast Asia. The NbS Partnerships Senior Lead works directly with Coalition member organizations, TNC country and global teams and other partners to analyze, influence and mobilize carbon markets (voluntary and compliance) as a vehicle for accelerating and scaling implementation of NbS that deliver credible climate-, nature
- and people-positive outcomes.
The NbS Partnerships Lead supports TNC’s Climate Partnerships Director in Asia Pacific, Coalition member organizations, and TNC country and global teams with a focus on setting and adaptively managing the strategic positioning of the SCeNe Coalition (amidst many like-minded initiatives), establishing and managing relationships with key stakeholders and other relevant platforms/initiatives in Singapore, Southeast Asia and globally, and proactively pursuing new funding opportunities for the Coalition. This includes tracking and analyzing corporate commitments and practice, government policies and decisions, and the practices or views of other stakeholders concerning carbon markets and NbS in Asia Pacific and working with Coalition member organizations, and TNC country and global teams to design and deliver programming in response to opportunities and challenges identified. It includes liaising with colleagues and external partners to help drive the implementation of the regional NbS for climate strategic plan and associated projects that TNC and its partners support, and mitigate and manage associated reputational risk.
The NbS Partnerships Lead will have a formal reporting line into the Nature Conservancy, while maintaining an informal reporting line to the Steering Committee Chair for all matters relating to the SCeNe Coalition. The NbS Partnerships Lead will take decisions to enable execution of approved strategic direction of the Coalition and will oversee Secretariat staff as and when hired.
RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE

- Forges and stewards the SCeNe Coalition’s relationships and engagements with relevant stakeholders, platforms and initiatives to achieve the SCeNe Coalition
