**ACADEMIC FACULTY APPOINTMENT: The Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine**

An Assistant Professor, Medical Education Research (Tenure-Track) will contribute significantly to medical education research, supporting the Medical Education Research and Scholarship Unit (MERSU) in its mission to become a leading centre of excellence globally.

MERSU’s focus is rigorous, theory-driven research which progresses understanding of individual, systems and societal influences on learning and performance, and then applies this knowledge to optimise the policy and practice of medical and health professions education.

The appointee will also be expected to contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and support faculty in development of health professions education (HPE) research expertise. This position reports to Vice Dean, Education and Dean.

**Key Responsibilities**

Job Purpose:

- Contribute broadly to research in MERSU by developing and leading research projects which focus on extending knowledge about the human-technology-space assemblage in diverse learning environments
- Attract grant income, and produce good quality publications and other forms of dissemination
- Enhance collaboration with strategic partners locally, including healthcare partners and the School of Social Science, and also with established HPE scholars and research centres internationally

Primary Responsibilities/Activities:

- Work with Vice Dean, Education to establish a strong qualitative research stream within MERSU
- To extend, through research, understanding of the social and material aspects of teaching and learning, and how individual factors, culture and contexts influence the processes and outcomes of teaching and learning
- Develop own research programmes which align with MERSU mission
- Support faculty to develop skills and expertise in HPE research
- Contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching (e.g., supervising student projects, stimulating student interest in HPE)
- Work as part of a team dedicated to contributing to the quality of LKCMedicine’s education and research.

**Person Specification**
- Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience:
- MBBS/MD and/or PhD degree(s)
- Relevant postdoctoral experience
- Significant experience and record of research publications in the field of health professions education (HPE)
- Teaching experience at either undergraduate or taught postgraduate level
- Management and Teamwork:
- Ability to lead and work as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Ability to work co-operatively with medical and non-medical staff and students
- Ability to supervise and mentor research staff and students
- Communicating and Influencing:
- Ability to communicate effectively with staff and students
- Ability to motivate others
- Strong dissemination skills

Special Requirements:

- Experience and desire to participate in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and training

**Time Commitment**

The level of effort for this appointment is at 1.0 full time equivalent (FTE) employment.
