The Assessment Specialist will work with faculty and vendors to develop framework, guidelines and policy to recognize prior learning and to determine the mastery of competencies. He/she will need to work with the SME in developing authentic assessments and evaluating the assessments validity and reliability. He/she helps to put the processes in place so that students are properly assessed and meet the competency-based programme learning outcomes.
In this role, the Assessment Specialist will be part of the Academy and will report to the Assistant Provost (Applied Learning). The Academy will be building capability in the University to provide competency-based education for adult learners.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Design in-person observation assessments to measure generic competencies such as presentation skills, teamwork.
- Actively look out, assess, and source for assessments which test aptitude to learn, technical and generic skills for competency-based programmes
- Work with vendors, SME and faculty to come up with a set of prior learning assessment and final assessment to determine the mastery of competencies in competency-based programmes
- Support procurement processes relating to assessment centre tools and projects
- Create a process of recognizing industry certificates and prior learning
- Work with faculty/SME in the mapping of industry certificates and prior learning for exemptions of competencies
- Support faculty / SME in evaluating portfolio assessment of work experience
- Ensure that the assessments are conducted in a timely manner and are properly documented
- Reviewing effectiveness of assessments to ensure that they are rigorous, reliable and valid in testing the required competencies
- Conduct training on assessment design and evaluation
- Any other duties assigned by work supervisor
**Job Requirements**
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Good written, oral and presentation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines, while maintaining quality standards
- Meticulous with an eye for detail
- At least 3 years of experience and strong familiarity with the landscape of assessments in a higher learning institute
- Familiarity with D2L Brightspace Learning Platform will be an advantage
- Degree (Master/PhD preferred) in learning / training and development with at least 5 years of relevant experience
- Experience with designing assessment methods/practices
- Familiar with statistical methods to measure reliability and validity of assessment items
- Experience in writing rubrics or supporting faculty in writing rubrics in different areas
