Our client is a market leader within the Shipping industry. We are currently partnering them to look for a Chief Economist. Reporting to the Chief of Staff, you will play an important role in ensuring that the strategic vision and corporate goals set by the management are successfully implemented and achieved.

The Chief Economist will work closely with the Senior Leadership Team to provide insightful socio-economic and political reviews, market studies and analysis to guide and help achieving the Group’s strategic positioning in Asia Pacific.

The Chief Economist’s responsibility is to provide with outstanding intellectual leadership and knowledge related to all aspects of global and domestic socio-economic and political topics, key market segments’ changes and maritime shipping and logistics’ industry trends.

He/she will provide with economic and market insight by developing research papers, in-depth trend analysis, and relevant forecasting models to effectively give recommendations and outlook on short, medium, and long-term trends affecting the business.

The Chief Economist will also be responsible for developing strong internal and external relationships with various key stakeholders including departments’ leaders, suppliers, customers along with industry’s economic advisors and/or academic experts.

On occasion, the Chief Economist will contribute to the decision-making process involved in major development and investment opportunities by advising and providing economic and market outlook to the senior executive team.

**Responsibilities**

Lead cutting-edge economic and market intellectual expertise
- Builds, manages and scales proper economic and market research and analysis center of expertise for CMA CGM Group in Asia Pacific.
- Researches, analyzes, and designs economic and market papers on a regular basis (weekly, monthly, quarterly) to provide the executive team with best knowledge on leading-edge economic and market events that may affect the business.
- Acts as the voice of the economy and the market internally by giving regular status updates to the teams through different communication channels including, but not limited to, meetings, webinars, speeches, reports, and newsletters.
- Writes ad-hoc analytical papers and articles on key topics of interest for the business.

Provide insightful analysis and recommendations to predict future trends
- Collects, analyzes, and uses all relevant internal and external data available including, but not limited to, production performance data, relevant economic and market newspapers, industry’s specialized information providers as well financial, political, and socio-economic information and studies providers.
- Drives, analyzes, and adjusts statistical forecasting models upon market conditions to drive economic and market outlook resulting in better company’s results.
- Challenges and provides recommendations on macro-economic, political, and financial trends as well as industry’s specific indicators including market demand, market capacity, rate levels as well as customer and supplier’s performance changes.

Develop state-of-the-art economic and market knowledge base and reputation
- Coordinates, collaborates, and facilitates data collections and preliminary results with the various business teams.
- Ensures all key stakeholders within the organization get added value from the various economical and market papers and studies provided.
- Develops and maintains strong relationships internally with the Senior Leadership Team but also with external key stakeholders such as shipping and logistics industry professionals, academic researchers, news or data providers and other notable persons working in the economic field.
- Contributes to major decision making in development projects or investment opportunities working closely with the Senior Leadership Team by providing them with relevant and analytical studies and recommendations.

**Requirements**:

- Master’s in Economics is required,
- Strong outstanding presentation skills (advanced PowerPoint skills needed).
- Strong analytical and synthesis skills, including ability to absorb and process large amounts of data into actionable information.
- 5 years of experience in similar role providing leading-edge economic insight analyzing socio, political and economic trends.
- Understands basic and advanced principles of economic outlook, socio-economic analyses, economic databases, indicators, and performance measures.
- Experience with multivariate statistical methods, survey research and/or qualitative research and design and analyses, economic projections, and forecasts.
- Strong knowledge in Excel is required, skills in other statistical software such as Stata is a plus.
- Outstanding communication skills both written and verbal.
- Excellent interpersonal and public speaking skills.
- Outstanding presentation skills especially in PowerPoint.
- Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Office
