**Position **:Financial Institution Counterparty Credit Risk (Senior Associate)
The Credit Risk team is responsible for review, analysis and management of credit risk for global financial institution counterparties arising from our deposit placements, derivatives exposures, transaction related brokerage and custodian exposures. Recommendation for approval of credit risk limits and credit risk mitigation arrangements. Support maintenance of framework for methodology, credit policy and procedures.
**Direct responsibilities include**:
- Quantify, qualify and to ensure the timely follow-up of credit risk assessment and exposures of an assigned financial institution counterparty credit risk portfolio, so as to provide input to enable decision makers to commit the firm in acceptable deals / relationships, and to monitor the global risk the firm undertakes
- As background to individual credit analysis, analyse
- Banking, financial system (incl. market profiles - capital market infrastructure, transactional processing environments, market practices & regulations) and sovereign fundamentals
- Financial statements, prospectuses, constituting documents, market indicators and news flow with a view of formulating and substantiating a recommendation for credit appetite and risk ratings
- Follow, monitor and elevate market trends and events which may impact the credit quality of the counterparties covered; review credit ratings and assessments as appropriate
- Analyse and determine the credit risk associated with proposed transactions and recommend mitigants as well as credit terms for legal agreements governing such transactions
- Produce accurate credit risk exposure report as part of active portfolio management and as fortnightly inputs to Senior Management Committee reporting pack
- Participate in maintenance of credit policy framework and methodologies, incl. following developments in financial regulation and industry structure and providing ad-hoc analysis in support of changes of methodology for credit analysis and framework of credit alert signals
- Participate in the development of risk management standards, procedures and processes for existing and new counterparties, products and structures
- Assist in Risk related assignments and projects as required
**Competencies: Skills and Experience**
- Strong analytical skills with experience in analysing financial institutions’ financial statements, including a good understanding of industry structure, regulations and sovereign developments and their implications on financial institution credit risk
- At least 4 years of credit analysis experience, preferably with focus on global financial institution and sovereign credit (e.g. rating agency, buy-side credit risk team)
- Knowledge of banking and capital market products including derivatives, ISDA / CSA documentation and sound understanding of credit risk arising from derivatives
- Knowledge of industry regulatory developments impacting credit risk assessment of and derivative transactions with financial institutions - BRRD, Basel III, FSB GSIBs (TLAC, MREL), EMIR, Dodd Frank Act, Uncleared Margin Rules (UMR) etc.
- Occasional risk focused due diligence meetings with clients will be required and any experience with this is welcomed.
- Keen to work in partnership with investment group and treasury business partners incl. under tight timelines
- Good written and oral presentation skills, confidence communicating with professionals at all levels
- Diligence / attention to detail
- Team player who can also work independently with minimum supervision
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Excel)
- Ability to think from first principles and a desire to grow professionally
- CFA/FRM or Accountancy qualifications would be an advantage but not an essential requirement
