Specialty Lines Underwriting

**Job Description**:
**Job Purpose**:

- Assist the Head in the management of the company’s Financial Lines underwriting functions which includes setting strategic direction and objectives to grow the market share for the Company products through the appropriate distribution channels in Singapore and across the region.
- Responsible for the underwriting of new and renewal Financial Lines business of higher technical complexity under GA’s underwriting standards and delegated authority levels.
- Deliver a high-level service standard to our intermediaries, partners and customers with focus of building relationships and promoting the company.

**Responsibilities**:
**Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following**:

- Working with the Head to develop both business and underwriting plans and strategies to support the business growth through the various distribution channels.
- Working with the Head, Underwriting and Distribution Team to drive the profitable growth of Financial Lines portfolio for the company and achieving market leadership.
- Working with the Head and team to establish best practices and processesto ensure that the team meet the company’s service standards set.
- Provide technical guidance to the team.

**Business Development**
- Working with the Head to establish business targets, incentives and terms of a business with a partnership channel including terms in an MOU or Partnership Agreement
- Working with the Head, team and Distribution in enhanced product development and successful business penetration launch.
- Grow new and existing businesses through strengthened account relationships by way of a multi-tier approach.
- Lead the efforts in key business and line reviews including product selection, pricing, enhanced product introductions, competitive (healthy)conversions via Key Decision Influencer, etc.
- Perform territory and distribution channel analyses and planning in order to prioritize allocation of efforts to maximize profitable growth.

**Underwriting**

Works with the Head and Team to:

- Develop, maintain, review and enhance appropriate Pricing models and establish Market Prices.
- Underwrite and maintain a profitable book of Financial Lines business.
- Provide technical guidance to the underwriting team.
- Ensure Technical Portfolio Management and conduct remediation for underperforming portfolios.
- Compile, analyze and prepare monthly reports required and present them during monthly meetings and business reviews.
- Develop, maintain, review and enhance Underwriting Manual and PolicyWording.
- Ensure that the team determines acceptable pricing and terms, within their underwriting authority and underwriting guidelines, on new business and renewals.
- Ensure acceptable loss ratio through coordinating account stewardship process, loss control activities, tracking and following up on large claims and related activity as required.
- Ensure evaluation of facultative reinsurance needs and coordination as necessary within company underwriting and risk control guidelines.
- Ensure that sanction checks are conducted.
- Conform to contract certainty guidelines.
- Ensure timely and proper passing down of instructions to PolicyAdministration with the required information/documentation.
- Stay current on competition, underwriting environment, and market conditions and share findings and updates with all members of the team as appropriate.

**Experience**:

- Minimum 8 years’ experience in Financial Lines insurance underwriting with direct intermediary engagement / technical underwriting.
- Extensive knowledge of insurance operations, underwriting procedures and understanding of policy wordings.
- In-depth understanding of risk assessment, laws and legislation in relation to the general insurance industry and specifically within the Financial Linesfield.
- Experienced in leading a small team.

**Qualification**:

- ACII, ANZIIF or Degree/Diploma in Insurance
- Basic Degree/Diploma in Business or Banking & Finance with CGI
- RPLU designation with the Professional Liability Underwriting Society
