Design Lead

**Your role**

The Subregional design lead role sits within the wider Design, Engineering & Construction function and is responsible for project set-up and delivery control, technical coordination of consultant teams and implementation of both the company’s Design Engineering Guidelines (DEG’s) and standardised design for data centre projects within the respective region/market.

**What you’ll do**

**Project Technical Coordination**
- Provide oversight and guidance to the design managers within the respective subregion.
- Perform design manager duties when required.
- Manage resources within the subregion to ensure workstreams are efficient and design managers are equally performing.
- Oversee dispersion of projects to consultants on a subregional basis to ensure workloads are sustainable.
- Issue RFP’s to 3rd party consultants, review and level bids.
- Managing and collaborating with all internal and external stakeholders
- Ensuring design compliance to both Global DEG and Regional DEG standards; Escalate any DEG Deviations for approval in accordance with the DEG Deviation Process
- Review of the Basis of Design (BoD) and subsequent drawing/document issues
- Management of the design schedule to align with the construction Tender Event Schedule (TES) requirements
- Working with external Governance parties such as: Insurance; permitting; planning; fire
- Coordination of page-turn reviews with subsequent input/incorporation of internal stakeholder comments
- Alignment of Project Teams input into the DLR gating process
- Alignment on scope demarcation (with the Construction team) between appointed parties within the different design stages to align with the procurement strategy
- Attend OAC meetings as technical resource to the Construction Team
- Communicating ad hoc project technical details to internal stakeholders as required
- Serve as technical manager for 3rd party A/E and commissioning teams on each project. Review commissioning plans and testing scripts
- Review OFCI equipment submittals and make recommendations to Procurement team
- For Build-to-Suit projects, act as the primary customer contact for the development of customized data center development projects.
- Liaise with customer success team in post-lease projects
- Tour project sites during construction
- Attend Level 4 and 5 commissioning activities
- Participate in internal design team meetings to innovate and recommend new technologies or design concepts.

**Project Cost & Schedule Control & Reporting**
- Review all monthly reports for the subregion.
- Follow Gating Process, performing administrative duties such as reviewing budgets, issuing contracts and change orders, approval invoices
- Work with Delivery Team in the preparation and review of schedule/budgets and forecasts related to anticipated design and construction expenditures
- Creating the Project Information Document (PID)
- Chairing the G0 (if applicable), G1 gating calls
- Attend the G2 gating call
- Compilation of project monthly reports until G1 approval, monitoring the project budget including any cost implications of the design process
- Reviewing construction Requests for Information (RFI’s) as escalated by the A/E Consultants
- Project technical submittals - ensure these are closed out by the Project Team in a timely manner, providing point of contact for escalation and/or clarification for the Project Team
- Co-managing the commissioning process and Integrated Systems Test (IST)
- Participating in the lessons learned/continuous improvement process
- Communicating, championing and reporting on project milestone delivery and process requirements to align project teams to DLR standard process
- Manage the reporting of project information into DLR’s Insurance process
- Summarizing and reporting project metrics to ensure up-to-date and accurate corporate pipeline reporting.

**Standards Alignment, Evolution & Process**
- Assist as requested by the Regional Design & Engineering Standards Lead or Global Design & Engineering Standards Team in the updating and maintenance of DLR’s Regional and Global Design & Engineering standards
- Provide feedback to the Regional Design & Engineering Standards Lead related to lessons learned and recommendation to DEG improvement.
- Management of standards, DEG/DER management and procurement input to include:

- Overseeing the implementation of new design systems and tools e.g. REVIT / BIM / BIM 360
- Agree all standard project designs at key design milestones G0 to G2
- Lead cross functional project and standards design reviews to implement standardisation
- Ensure lessons learned are factored into current and future standards and project designs
- Attend Factory Witness Testing (FWT) as requested by greater Design Team.
- If required, collate/record/action updates of DEG documentation based on:

- Feedback from the Operations Team
- Gaps/inconsistencies etc. identified throughout project implementation
- Ongoing market developments in project
